Barclays "default" when it's not a default.

Hello MSE forum.
Some 6 years ago my life went to pot. All my cards, defaulted and such went on payment plans.
After that, I did a degree, did very well in that and life is much better as a result. Actually have a career, that pays me enough to live comfortably, rather than a job where even 39 hours on minimum wage wasn't enough.
I didn't actually realise that defaults actually come off your report 6 years from the date of default. I guess I figured it'd be 6 years from the account being settled. Which means, over the next year, my credit report is going to start looking a lot prettier.
However, there is one small problem. And that is Barclaycard, which was the largest of all the debts, and is still being paid off. Hoping to have it all done and dusted mid 2017. But, although the interest is frozen, and has been for the last 6 years, the account was never marked as a default. I simply have AR notes all over the account. Which, if I read this correctly, means that account is still going to be there up to 6 years after I've finished paying it off.
So part 1 of this is. Is there any way I can have Barclaycard change my account so that it defaulted from the date they started marking my account as AR?
Part 2. Before they put my account in Arrangement to Pay, they arsed about a lot. Looking at my report I can see I was having trouble paying back in September 2010 (possibly earlier, but I don't have those records with me, at present). However, it wasn't until July 2011 that they started marking my account as AR. In that time they whacked on some £280 on top, in fees. Is there any way I can contest those? That amount certainly doesn't seem at all reasonable to me.
Cheers In Advance.

Hi,
Yes you can send a written complaint to Barclaycard, contesting the fees added to your account, say they were unfair and disproportionate, and you'd like a refund, don't ask, don't get.
You can also complain about the AP markers, you are correct in that they will still show for 6 years after the account gets settled.
You could argue with them that the account should of been defaulted when you were unable to meet your minimum contracted payment, and the fact that it wasn't has put you in an unfair position now.
Don't ask me for a template letter, as there isn't one, it's best to write one yourself and include as much information and detail as possible, emphercise the unfairness aspect as best you can.

Hi
I agree that a default should have been marked on your credit file after 3 – 6 months worth of missed contractual payments. Your relationship with Barclaycard had broken down before the arrangement was agreed.
The ICO guidance on this is here:

Sorry to bump this, but I have a query which is related...
I was going to complain about my BC not being defaulted when I first missed contractual payments, but the debt is now with PRA, and only seems to have the past year or so I think showing on my credit report (marked as AP all along until 2 months ago and now being marked as OK up to date, for some reason). Can I still complain now it's not with BC? If so, who to, BC or PRA?

Have PRA group bought your debt, or are they just managing it ?
I would assume the latter, so make your complaint to BC.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. In the same boat with Barclays. They are about to transfer the debt but my account still says Green OK ! I'd be interested to know how you get on. Will subscribe to this thread.0

As far as I'm aware, PRA have bought the debt. I'll check though.0 -
