Bacon in the oven

I've only recently discovered the joy of cooking bacon in water in a frying pan so as to avoid the splattering I always got when I fried it conventionally, but that means the gas is on under the pan for 15 minutes or so, much of that on full, and that's not exactly frugal.
So I was wondering, given that we do our chips the cheap, low-fat way by simply chipping spuds, putting the chips on a baking tray and bunging 'em in the oven for 25 minutes at 200°C, can't I also do some bacon in the oven at the same time?
I know I could just try it, but I don't want to write off a couple of quids' worth of food if it's not going to work, so can anybody tell me if it does? And if the oven method does work, do I just plonk the rashers on a tray or do they need to be in foil or something?

I always did bacon that way , made a little island around the bacon by laying on foil and curling the edges up to stop the fat running everywhere
also did fried eggs by putting a little oil in a yorkshire pudding tin and popping them in a little while after the baconEx forum ambassador

Stick another baking sheet on the top and they'll cook quicker and won't curl up.They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.0

Yes you can cook it in the oven - how long it takes, compared to the chips, to achieve the colour/look you personally like is a different matter.
What you need to do the first time is just see how it goes, then, the second time put the bacon in first/earlier if you find it wasn't as brown as you'd have liked.
It'll cook in the oven.
It'll be safe to eat from the oven.
Then it's just a matter of how it looks/how you like it to look.
If you do find you want to cook it a bit longer than the chips, you can always nuke the bacon first, then lob it in with the chips at the same time.
I'd have the rashers separate from the chips to prevent the oil from running into them. Others might say "that's the best bit".
All ideas..... so go and see what happens and what you think.0 -
Yes, we often cook ours in the oven under the grill for bacon sarnies.
Or just on the top shelf (on a baking tray) with the top/bottom heat on rather than the fan.DEBT 02/25: total £6100 Debt free date 12/250 -
I do bacon, egg, mushrooms, tomatoes and chips all in the oven at the same time. I use 2 baking trays, chips on one and rest on the other and top and tail them in the oven as they cook. I use silicon bun cases for the eggs.Zebras rock0

Why don't you just grill it rather than frying/boiling?0

Because then I'd have to clean the grill panAnd the whole idea is to use the same heat for the chips and the bacon.
Actually, it's just occurred to me that we've had this oven 5 years now and never used the grill ...We're all doomed0 -
i put it on a bit of tin foil then its less messy
i usually turn it half way through
i want some now and i haven't got any lol0 -
Put a bit of kitchen roll on a plate in the microwave and zap it for a minute or two cheaper than the oven if you want a quick bacon sarnie, my student grandson does this0

On eat well for less, they done crispy bacon in the micro between sheets of kitchen towel. I guess you can google it to find timings and complete method
