Hi Thistle
If the money isn't there come January and the 'thing' would still get done then I'd say go for it. It could be an early Christmas pressie for you and DH, and if he is the one who suggested it then why not?
I bet you've already made a space for it.....
At the end of the day it's your decision and it seems such a shame with it being so close by. Sure you'll make the right choice whatever it is.
Hope everything else is ok in the world of the Thistles - am keeping this short as I'm really tired but will catch up tomorrow. Take care xxLBM Jul 16 £26,823.83, Nov 16 £27,961.98, Dec 16 £26,977.66, Jan 17 £26,884.76

Thanks Smolly, I bid right at the end and got it for far less than I was expecting. I will earn most of the cost from a gig this Thurs. night.
I can't believe I will soon have my welsh dresser! I know it's just a thing but I have waited for so many years to have one, and it will be in place long before Xmas! :j:happylove0 -
I'll look at it from a different perspective - you already have the money saved, yes? It;s just not saved with that original intention? If you feel that you are likelyu to be able to replace what you've "borrowed" by the time it's needed (and if my rudimentary maths is correct, you would need to raise £1.65 a day in order to do that assuming a £150 spend) then I would suggest that yes, you go for the dresser now, and then recommence your "saving" for the other thing.
If for whatever reason you're not confident that you can replace the funds however, I'd be more cautious - if nothing else the last thing you want is to cause yourself more stress, isn't it.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

No problem, Smolly!
DH is coming with me to pick it up on Friday late afternoon, so I now have all the motivation I need to get the dining room totally sorted before then. I predict the next 3 1/2 days will be very busy ones! I plan on spending all weekend doing nothing but admiring it. Can you tell I'm a bit excited? I'll take photos once it's done :happylove0 -
Cross post again, EH! I am so excited. Having a few days to get things ready before collecting it is perfect - and then the dining room will be finished! After that there is only the hallway, a bookshelf to build and some more decluttering. The house will be finished long before Xmas - my kids will no longer be embarrassed to bring their friends home!:happylove0

Just popping on before I get started on the mess to say that I watched the first episode of The Victorian Slum last night on BBC iplayer. What an interesting program. If we were living in those times, it's likely my husband wouldn't still be alive, I'd be in the workhouse or worse, and who knows if the kids would have even survived childhood.
If you haven't seen it, it's worth watching, it really brings home how just how tough times were. I read Jack London's "People of the Abyss" a few months back and it told a similar story.
It has given me a renewed appreciation for all I do have. Even though things are tight at the moment, I have plenty of hope for the future and know without a doubt that things will continue to get better for us.:happylove0 -
Aw that is good that these things make us appreciate what we have & the times we live in.
We are so lucky!
Exciting times about the welsh dresser.

Going to note that one - it sounds interesting! You might enjoy the Jennifer Worth book Shadows of the Workhouse too - I found it truly fascinating and very sad.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡
