  • Well done, I love the eBay app, I thinks much easier than on a pc.

Hope the chat with DH went ok? X

It was a bit of a downer - he doesn't think we will be able to buy a house again without something like a lottery win. It's spurring me on to find ways to bring in big chunks of money over the next 5 years, I can't stand the thought of renting for the rest of my life!

I am desperate for our own little house. It can be teeny tiny, as long as it's ours!

  • I'm sure you will Hun. You'll get there Hun xx
  • Woke up feeling much less cranky :p and happy to find one of the things I listed yesterday has sold! :j It's funny how a little perspective can change your attitude. I hate feeling sulky and it's not something that happens very often, but I guess everyone is entitled to have an off day or two.

Today I need to take DD to her friend's house about an hour away, before we leave I am going to squeeze in a couple of errands and take the sold ebay item to the post office. I'll do a little shop on the way home from dropping DD off, walk the dog, and then list another item or two.

My plan of walking the dog first thing went a bit awry while DD has been on half term. She's back to school on Monday so I will be firm with myself about getting out the door with the dog before 8:30 am. I am not very disciplined and really need to work on it, life would go so much smoother and I could get so much more done if I just sorted myself out. Does anyone have any advice on how to change my ways? I could really use some help.

  • Morning,

    You're sounding very upbeat today.

Well done on the eBay sale, that's great.

My DD is also back to school on Monday, DS however has another week off as his school lump all their inset days at the end of October.

I'm very much like you in self discipline, or rather lack of it, don't know if you've noticed :rotfl:

    Hi Thistle
Sorry for not having caught up with you. Have been at Mum's and internet connection there a little hit and miss!
Am back home now with a mountain of things to sort - it's payday and I daren't look at what I've been paid as I'm expecting it to be less! It is my next job though so will leave all this here and come back to you later.
Take care and well done on that sale.
Keeping everything crossed for the Welsh Dresser xx

  • Pmo2 - thanks for stopping by. I am crossing my fingers for you about more work.

What can we do about the lack of discipline? I really need some help, I am a procrastination pro and great at starting things and not finishing them when I don't see immediate results. I feel like such a mess :o

  • You're not a mess hun, I find doing things in small amounts help, I feel accomplished once I've crossed something off my list.
  • Thanks Pmo2! :o

I bought YNAB nearly 3 years ago but never really got to grips with it, there were so many variables when we had the business, that I gave up in the end. I have set up a fresh budget starting in November and am going to take the time to go through all the tutorials. I've not been good with long term planning in the past but if it is all written out for me then there is no reason I can't understand it. It's common sense really, but there have been plenty of times when that eluded me. :p

The talk with DH about not being able to buy a house has scared me into taking action. I want to own something outright that is all ours, even if it's just a tiny 1 bed flat. There are about 8 flats/houses for sale at the moment near us for right around £60,000. Of course prices will likely rise year on year, but this area has been fairly stable and if I could find a way to bring in an extra £1,000 a month, in 6-8 years we could buy something. I know that is a big if, and at the moment an extra £1000 a month seems unlikely but it's not impossible now, is it? There is so much inspiration on this forum showing amazing things people have accomplished through sheer determination.

This is where the whole self-discipline thing will come in, making and sticking to my goals, both long and short term. I am going to start by sticking to the routine of walking the dog first thing, working on the house, etc. Once the house is done I will concentrate on keeping it tidy and finding ways to bring in more money each week. I will have the house done before Xmas and am planning on completely focusing on the money side starting Jan 1st.

Re-reading this diary makes me see that I have been repeating myself over and over for the last couple of months, and while I have made progress, I haven't really firmly grasped the nettle yet. It must all be a part of the learning process for me, because this time it's sinking in. It's going to be a long haul and planning and reaching long term goals is completely new territory for me, but I know I can do it.
