Multiple 'hard' searches from same company?

Hi,
I've had an alert from Experian today saying my file has been searched - all ok, and expected.
However, when I've clicked through to look at my report, my credit score has gone down, due to the amount of hard searches recorded over the last 6 months.
Looking at the records, the company we're going through at the moment have done 3 'hard' searches on us (one two weeks ago, following two 'soft' searches, and two 'hard' searches yesterday.)
What's going on? Is this normal?

this happened to me with lloyds/halifax, got to a point they ran one, approved my full mortgage, then ran another 14 searches and various soft searches and then retracted my offer as my credit rating was hit so badly with their own searches.
Ended up pushing back VERY hard on them and got compensation and etc. Initially they rejected my claim saying they werent allowed to tell me why my application had been retracted/declined. but i referred them to their own site guaranteeing they would explain an declines to first time borrowers (cant find the link any more)
anyways it got resolved and ended up still using them and am very happy. but keep an eye out if they keep performing searches0 -
Awww, crap!!!! - that doesn't sound good then....0
