Hi,
I was just doing my online shop, and wondered if anyone had any tips on olive oil. Which one do you buy and how much is it? Or would i be better off buying online somewhere else?
Thanks
Angie

I get mine from Aldi/Lidl find it the best value.0

I use two lots.
Extra Virgin Olive Oil is the best and I keep this for things where the taste really matters like when I'm drizzling it on salads/veg etc. I look out for offers and you can often pick up a good one on BOGOF but I'm prepared to pay for it because the taste is so good.
For cooking with Olive Oil I keep a bog standard version.
I buy quite a bit and pick it up wherever I see bargains - my Store is always brimming with the stuff0 -
I think MoJo has hit on a very valid point there.....it's a total waste of money cooking with anything more than standard olive oil. For one thing the extra virgin oil doesn't heat to a high enough temperature and another, you ruin it's delicate flavour.
Personally I keep my eyes peeled for various offers in supermarkets but find Lidl's stuff a good store cupboard standard. I also look when I'm away on holidays on the continent and pick up a few litres in the local supermarket!Life in this world is, as it were, a sojourn in a cave. What can we know of reality? For all we can see of the true nature of existence is, shall we say, no more than bewildering and amusing shadows cast upon the inner wall of the cave by the unseen blinding light of absolute truth, from which we may or may not deduce some glimmer of veracity, and we as troglodyte seekers of wisdom can only lift our voices to the unseen and say humbly "Go on, do deformed rabbit again.....it's my favourite". © Terry Pratchett in "Small Gods"

same here: extra virgin to be drizzled on salads etc and when taken 'neat', and just ordinary virgin olive oil for cooking
LOL: 'neat' as if it's an alcohol:rotfl:BLOODBATH IN THE EVENING THEN? OR PERHAPS THE AFTERNOON? OR THE MORNING? OH, FORGET THIS MALARKEY!

Only buy EV OO when I want a strong OO flavour and never cook with it.
For flavoured salad dressings e.g. honey/mustard, thai, vinagrette, I use groundnut.Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -
Ever tried carnola oil? it has a better food profile than olive oil and is cheaper i use that and standard oo. i also use sesame oil which is very cheap from chinese supermarkets for stir frying;)pats :T0

In case any one is not aware canola oil is American for rape seed oil, the yellow stuff you see in all the fields, it is a marketing ploy to up the premium & try & make out it is special and "exotic
canola oil maybe genetically modified rape seed, so if you are avoiding GM then avoid canola

That said rape seed oil is low in "unhealthy" fatsEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
I use all kinds of oils, including some I flavour myself but have never tried rape seed oil (or canola). I thought canola was rape and palm oil?
Has it a strong taste?
Don't think I've ever seen palm oil here, but then I've never really looked for it.0 -
I only use extra virgin olive oil for salads or drizzling on cooked pasta and pizza.
Rape seed oil is quite tasteless in my opinion and ideal for cooking, I would normally use that, sunflower oil, sesame or walnut oil for stir frying, depending on what I am cooking and the flavour I want.
