    But you said this:

Of course it is your wife's main residence, what property did you imagine could possibly be your wife's main residence, other than the other property that she owned and rented out. Either way you completely misunderstood the situation (in a way that someone who was not quite PC might call idiotic).
Yes that right - I didn't have a clue. I was reading through all the HMRC wording and getting utterly confused by all the terms and jargon. Turns out our house actually being classed as her main residence is the perfect outcome for us as it means we won't be liable for SDLT+ on the new house.

The commercial property we're just about to complete on that includes a flat in the title is also not liable for SDLT+ so we're doing quite well on that front lately.

Good, so at least we agreed that then.

A bit like our existing 8 London investment properties then, which we also didn’t have to pay additional stamp duty on.

I never claimed otherwise. Told you to check your facts first ;)

Excellent. It's good to save a few thousand here and there :)

I did check my facts and you also confirmed them, you had no idea which property was your wife's main residence, that was my point, and you confirmed it.

Exactly, I had no idea. I wasn't claiming it was definitely her main residence, I was asking about different possibilities. That's what's so useful about these forums (except when people are chucking their toys around ;))

I wasn't aware that not knowing all the facts on a particular subject was such a problem. If that makes me an 'idiot' in your opinion then so be it. I'm still not offended ;)

FT: In UK’s misery, EU leaders see tonic to quiet their own populists
First EU leaders fretted that a Brexit might be contagious, encouraging other member states to follow suit. Now they are coming around to the opposite idea: that the financial and economic pain suffered by the UK since its vote to leave the bloc could be just the thing to take the wind out of their own Eurosceptics.“

It will be interesting to see which way the ftse swings this morning, the S&P was still strong at the close last night, and the Asian markets are generally well up this morning (so far, but with China slightly down). I didn't expect yesterday's ftse surge at all, so I just can't guess this morning which way it will go. I hope that it might be more or less flat, which I would be very happy with given the circumstances, especially if it doesn't fall tomorrow.

It rarely is, but not knowing the most basic of facts on a particular subject usually is, particularly when they form the cornerstone of the subject you are trying to understand.
If you think of it as 'us' verses 'them', then it's probably your side that are the villains.

It seems that Generali and Mrs Generali have both been PPRed.

I will probably disappear soon since i have also asked: what is the plan?

I hope this is not deemed unacceptable behaviour. May I say that I genuinely want to know this and am not trying to upset anyone, particularly anyone of an easily upset disposition that seem to inhabit this place.
Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.
