Homemade Christmas/winter pot pourri - contents?

Options
I'm thinking of making my own winter/Christmas pot pourri this year, and need some help with contents please! So far, I've thought of:

Orange slices (dried in the oven)
Cinnamon sticks
Nutmegs
Pine cones

I'd appreciate any ideas of contents to include, and also ideas for good quality Christmassy essential oils to make it smell nice!

Thanks :cheesy:

  • get a whole orange and pierce bits of cinnamon sticks into it(2cm).
then wrap it in fancy netting and tie it with a christmassy ribbon

Would that work? Would the cinnamon sticks not break?

Ive seen it done with cloves before.
  • I do oranges studded with cloves every year with my kids. They are now 18, 14 and 12 and are still asking when we will be doing the oranges!!!
We are all swans. Serene on top- but paddling like fury underneath.:smileyhea

I got an orange studded with cloves off my best friend a few years ago.

She also made me some cherry lips vodka

And she hand painted a decoration for my christmas tree.

She'd had a major op a few months before xmas and spent her recovery time at home making home made gifts for christmas.

Her pressies were fab that year :)
Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...

This might sound like a stupid question - but don't the oranges go bad within a day or so if you studd them with cloves?

  • not that i know of-i done this years ago so ive forgotten(as you can see by the post above yours lol)
if your unsure about it maybe it would be better trying it out now just incase
  • Can i ask when you buy Pot porri what is all the other 'stuff' that comes in the bag ? is it just wood shavings or something ?
Just asking because my mum loves that sort of thing and i'd love to make it for her.
  • Hi just noticed this thread and not sure if you are still looking for pot pourri ideas. I have a book about potpourri and candle making which I got when I had thought I would like to do that kind of thing, then thought it was too much like hard work lol. I will happily post it too you (or to anyone else who would fancy it if you dont) as it may give ideas, even if you dont follow it exactly. Just PM me if you're interested.
