Haven't heard back after interview

Options
I had an interview for an entry level job on the 18th of May, where they said I'd hear within the week. The interview went very well in my opinion and I had some relevant experience they were looking for. However, it's been over a week and I have heard nothing since. I emailed the interview co-ordinator on the 25th (exactly a week later) but I haven't heard back.

My quandry is what do I do? Should I apply for other jobs or wait around? The job does not have a end date and it is still advertised on the website. Its for a number of positions so a better chance?

I don't want to go for the rigmarole of applying again and interviewing is something I'd like to avoid (I hate it)

Keep contacting them. In my first job, the hiring manager had gone on holiday which was apparently why the decision hadn't been made quicker. (I also found out later they were a little unsure of my confidence etc - as I said was my first job.) However, my persistence of regularly phoning and asking if a decision had been made paid off and they offered me the job!

As for applying for more jobs, you probably should do that too. I don't know anyone who likes interviews, (myself included) but the more you go on the more 'practice' you get and the more used to them you become. Also, research - the company, interview questions everything you can think of. The more prepared you are, the more confident - speaking from my own experience! :j

Good luck - hope everything goes well!:T

    Hi.

What you are experiencing happens a lot in the process of finding a job. All you need do is to keep in touch professionally with the HR, asking them the state of things with the recruitment, and also reminding them that you are an excellent fit for the job, and that you are available should they need you.

    All the best.

Thanks for the replies. I will persevere and send another follow up email to a higher HR person on Monday. I will also apply for more jobs next week.

There's no harm in emailing their HR department and requesting some interview feedback, it shouldn't be too big of a deal for them - it's helped me out in the past. Good luck!

This is a good point as well. Asking for feedback can be a less direct way of saying "Have I got the job or not?" if you haven't heard anything. It also then gives you tips on where to work on for the next interview.

I'm not sure I'd send the email to a higher up person though who most likely doesn't deal with recruitment at that level. If you follow up again I'd always send it to the interviewer/HR person involved in the interview, as appropriate, but not to anyone not directly involved.

I'd always keep applying for other job, until you've got the unconditional offer anything can happen - someone else might get it, the job might no longer exist, the recruitment might be put on hold, they might decide they actually need to change the jd.....

Agreed, keep on looking, worst case scenario is that you'll have to choose between 2 jobs. Entry-level roles won't be the hiring manager's priority if something else needed attention, so a gentle 'I'm still here' reminder as you keep on looking is a good plan

Update Bump! So I chased again for feedback. Secretly I thought I had the job as rejections are sent out immediately plus I had had a great interview.

But apparently not! This was the feedback from the hiring manager: 'XXXX has a lovely personality with fantastic personal values. She had prepared well for the questions about XXXXXX and the role however she struggled to give customer focused competency based examples to include her own experience.'

How is this feedback not enough to get a £16,500 job? Who is it they are looking for? How are they ever going to fill this vacancy? At the end the hiring manager even asked me if I had other interviews lined up.

How are my past competencies going to help me in this new role? It's such !!!!!!!!. I even asked them in the interview if they needed any more information from me (like if they weren't satisfied with any of my answers). You put so much into preparing and interviewing. These managers don't care about you.

Yesterday and today I have applied for all jobs (I was being choosy earlier which made me waste 2 weeks) and got an assessment booked for Monday. This is so disheartening and unfair though as I have a super work ethic. Anyway rant over.
