Question about Tesco
BadBehaviour
I finally managed to pass an interview. I was getting quite disheartened by all the rejections. Asda told me I had passed the interview but they didn't have a suitable job for me and Tesco finally is giving me a chance. I know it's not anyone's dream job but I am so glad all the same.
I will be contracted to do 15 hours a week on nights from 10pm till 7am.
It's a temp position (don't know yet for how long) with the possibility of going perm in the right conditions. I think it's a flexi contract or something like that. I put I am available at all times all days of the week.
My question is this: how much overtime could I realistically have the chance to do? I want to do as many hours as possible as I need money, so don't mind working a lot. Manager said there is overtime available.
Am I correct in thinking that a night shift attracts a higher rate of pay? So should be getting above the minimum wage rate I suppose.
I am having an induction tomorrow so I guess I will be told all about hours and pay in detail but I want to have a rough idea of what to expect. Thanks in advance.

I'm afraid no-one is likely to know how much overtime, although there may be some helpful Tesco employees on here who could hazard a good guess. But basically it will come down to the local arrangements at your store and how many employees they have/how well the hours are covered.Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0

Generally, in retail shops and supermarkets, there is always overtime going. They employ lots of people on low hour contracts so they have the flexibility and availability of lots of staff, also in the knowledge that many will do overtime at least some of the time. In a big place like Tesco, it is highly possible that the overtime will not be on your usual department0

Will most likely vary form store to store as to how much OT is available, where I am although not Tesco there is no OT at all, they are trying to cut back on hours.0

Welcome to the Tesco party-I have my induction for them Sunday evening funnily enough!
There is a "Night Premium" yes but from July 2016 it's only payable from midnight-6am rather than 10pm to 6am as it is now.
But yes it's a flexible contract; when I worked for Tesco over a decade ago during quieter periods there used to be overtime bans. Did ask my interviewer if that was still the case-she said it's not happened for a couple of years but it may/may not happen in the future. It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.0 -
Well done with the job.0
