100 Posts Third Anniversary Combo Breaker I've been Money Tipped!
I've just read through your diary and it's stuck with me!

I too am in the "we're in a load of debt, lets have a baby" club, he's 10 months now & I'm just back at work, so ready to hit this debt hard! I've also tried becoming debt free many times, but this time I really mean it. Before I never really "tried" just kept thinking it was going down when in reality I was overpaying at the beginning of the month, then having nothing left at the end of the month & racking the debt up again to be in the same position! I'm planning this time and want to be in a position to start saving for a house in the near future.

Hopefully it won't come to it, but I could possibly be losing my job in the next 6 months, and like you, the thought of spending any package I get on debts is devastating! In reality I'd like to put half in savings as the start for a house deposit and use half for something like a holiday, as long as I get work again fairly quickly, which shouldn't be a problem for my line of work!

I wish you all the luck in the world tackling your debts, you CAN do this!

Thanks T&K he is so excited about getting it done which makes it easier.

Arc my plan is not to spend a penny until I have new job ( apart from living of course) then I can decide sensibly what to do with it - let's work hard to make sure we can spend as much of that package as we can on good productive things

Good to hear you have a date for the op for your DC, I think your plan to not spend on extras until you have a new job sounds like a good one, just keep thinking about all the great things you can do with your package.

Hello there my poor neglected diary .............So over the last year almost whats happened? Not a lot on the debt busting front (its not gone up and its not gone down) I think having to put the private op on the cc just demoralized me when it really should have given me more of a push. On the job front I didn't get paid off and managed to get a new job in the same company and things look pretty secure for the next 4/5 years. Therefore I am determined (everyone rolls eyes and says yes yes we have heard this before) to get on top of this. I also know that not coming on here results in me taking my eye off the ball and heading down the denial path. I have spreadsheet and a plan - I want to knock £8k off by end of Feb 2019 here we go again ..............

Read your diary...I have to admit not from start to finish! Skimmed through and picked up the most salient points :) I am a bit of a yo yo debt buster too......seem to hammer it down take my eye off the ball or 'something' happens or needs paying and I am almost back to square 1 :(
But we are nothing but not tenacious - determined to get the debt down. My inspiration/push ATM is that I want to retire early and start living a different life. It might mean I have to take on short term supply work every now and then but I no longer want the stress, the daily grind and the responsibility! I just need to get the debt to something manageable and have about 3/4 years to do it.............fingers crossed this time!
Good luck on your own journey :)

Weyhey!! Its fab to have you back on the threads....thanks for popping in to say hi.

Yep, I am the living proof of how to get debt free and then pile it on again. It is going down and funds are being much more carefully allocated - eg to a car, but even so. Its hard work.

Just have to be resilient. Like Ig I dont want to be working forever so I am working on my 8-10 year plan...by the end of this I hope to have no debts, a EF, no mortgage, good financial buffers and a better pension and the kids to have had a help up in life. Its all possible.... my latest find is the Barefoot Investor....so currently we are sorting our pots and living off 60% of our income. Early days but we are both on board and determined. Not a bad start.

Hope alls good with you and DS is in a better place with school.

So last couple of months have been tricky September is always a nightmare for family birthdays etc, then in Oct was a big birthday for MIL which involved a lot of expensive travelling and hotels and so have not been able to make the over payments I hoped however still managed to knock £1.6k off so heading in the right direction, still aiming for £7/8k by end of feb I think I need to learn from you brizzle and have longer term plan. I have these ambitious lets clear it in 2 years plan and then start to get down when I realize that's not going to happen. Need to get to the end of the year without it creeping up save for Christmas with a Christmas club so that should be sorted. need to keep comin gon here even if I don't really have anything too update - keeps me accountable!
