My car was made (well assembled anyway) in Sunderland (by a Japanese company controlled by the French)

I don't mind people thinking it's grim up north, it is lovely where we are I can be in London in 3 hours including bus into Manchester from the local town. I can see moorland from every window in our house and whilst it's been a bit damper than usual fortunately we live on the top of a hill.
But there is the north and then there is Hull which is more midlands from here !!

Not as grim as it will be when I've moved up there and lowered the tone of the place :rotfl:

I was very surprised by how less grim Hull was, from what I had previously imagined.

Not un-grim enough for SS not to transfer University back down Sarf this year however.

Kabayiri - some people have roots. Many people my age have to look after elderly parents to some degree and many enjoy time with their children and grand children. moving to a area where you have no family and friends sounds awful to me. My friends are not a commodity I can exchange for others up north.

Precisely why people will live where their social needs are met in the future, and technology will solve the work problem for many.

It was interesting that the Chinese Premier chose to visit Manchester when he came, out of all the places he could visit.

Now, was it because of :-
    a) the famous Manchester hospitality
    b) the weather
    c) the graphene research labs.

Hull has a motorway to get you into the place easily, and to get you out quickly when the locals are being awkward.

I work in technology and most employers still insist on people being in the office at least some of the time, so not sure what you are referring to.
WFH hasn't stopped London and the SE being very congested any more than a drop in the ocean.
I presume your not referring to teleportation?

Has there been any research on disposal income North v South?

I know that back in the 80s the fair people of Hull used to be the best savers in the whole country, as a percentage of income.

Now does that make them super MSE-savvy or a bunch of tight wads, who knows.
