My vision for this time next year -
  • I will be slim and will feel good about myself
  • I will have a home where I'm never having to blitz before visitors come and when someone turns up unexpectedly I can welcome them in without having to shut doors to hide junk (yes - spare room - I'm talking about you)
  • My finances will be under control and I will have paid off at least 3 debts
  • I will have a garden to be proud of
  • I will have all winter supplies in
  • I will be chilled
So - how to do this
  • Weight and health
    • Stop drinking wine - from the New Year I'm going to have a year of sobriety. This is needed for health, weight and finances
  • Happy home
    • Work on the Marie Kondo process for the house - I'm still trying to coral stuff together and have not even got to the discard status (apart from the knicker drawer)
  • Finances
    • I will sell and dispose of unrequired stuff - I have lots of stuff - far too much. This will also lighten the house
  • Garden
    • A wee bit every day - I'm including the garage in the garden so if it's raining I'll potter in the garage - no rain - garden
  • Winter supplies
    • Start planning now - what do we use / need. Scavenge free wood for wood burner
  • Be chilled
    • Have all the above in place and start mindfulness

It will be a busy year but at 51 I really need to get my act in gear.
DH and I both work full time so it will be a challenging year but I'm so looking forward to next Christmas feeling relaxed, good about myself and happy.
Just a wee bit about me in case you're wondering:-
Me, DH and 2 dogs
Both work full time
DH needs a new knee / bone build up above & below knee. He can barely walk & we're awaiting a knee specialist appointment.
The above now means I'm classed as an unpaid carer  . This sudden and unexpected deterioration in DH's health has made me realise that I really need to take care of myself now - hence the diary.

I'll try to update each day and I'll list my goals simply on the next post (so I can keep updating to try to keep me on the straight and narrow.

This is to allow me to update & keep track and will be updated/ amended over the next few days as I ponder on what I want to achieve in a year. Not quite sure on how to fully monitor all my aims but I will think on this & will come back.

    Hello CM
I'd been wondering where you were lately as not seen you on the small things thread.
Sounds like you have loads of great goals for 2016. Good luck with them all.

Good to hear from you Bob - thought you were off with the family?

The small things thread was what made me think about another diary - I need to be accountable and making myself write a diary should work. I still read the small things thread each day but I prefer posting from the laptop and with Christmas & all that the lap top hasn't been opened much (I find the iPad a bit fiddly to type on).
But as I'll be opening the laptop each day to check the banks I thought - why not.

    Have a good day

Good to hear from you MT.
So you're on the pre-NY resolutions too? My reasoning was that on NY Day I'd be able to hit the ground running so to speak. Will catch up with your thread once it's up :)

    Hi CM,
Of course you can do it! Age is really just a number. I would say that though as you are the same age as me, lol. Now we didn"t get control of our finances till I was 46. That same year, I started tackling my weight & using the same disciplines required for debt-busting...namely planning & budgeting (calories), I lost 6 stones between Jan 2011 & Summer 2014. I dropped from a dress size 26 to a 16. I've struggled the end of 2014 & most of this year & have regained a stone & a half. That's the end of it though. I simply refuse to start buying 18s & am definitely not feeling as healthy as I did. So as I'm also going to be bigging up my health & fitness this year, I shall drop in now & again to your diary to see how you're doing. Good luck! Don"t waste even a acrap of time beating yourself up....just work on feeling differently this time next year.

Thanks for popping by foxgloves & Jonno - but I've not officially started yet as it's still 2015 and there are a couple of half drunk bottles of wine that really need to be kondoed :)

Well done on the weight loss foxgloves - and by the way - I know that 6 stone in a year sounds a lot - but I've got a lot to lose and I really think that stopping the wine will be the biggest part of this.

Incidentally - can anyone tell me how to make smilies work on the laptop? The disable smilies is not ticked & these work on the iPad so it must a laptop setting - the heading at the top of the "Go Advanced" for bold/strike through etc is not active either. All help gratefully appreciated.

So yesterday was a NSD day - and a productive one. Weather was mild & dry so stacked the 2 tonnes of logs that had been delivered. Didn't use any petrol to go to the hospital when a log fell on my finger & I thought I'd broken it. Realised that I could still bend it and the mahoosive swelling would go down.
So right index finger is twice the size of left index finger and is a fetching shade of purple. Even DH is impressed at my war wound :)

DH was off today so was not a NSD day. Needed diesel as he managed to get home on fumes yesterday.... Why does he do this!!!! Went to local shop the change the waistcoat thing I got him for his Christmas for a size that (almost) fits him. Now he's also on a diet in the New Year. This is a wonderful (but expensive) huntin' shootin' & fishin' shop but the quality is next to nothing else I've seen and will last a lifetime - and they have brilliant sales (real ones - not all year round ones).
Then we went for lunch - 3 courses & drinks for the grand total of £5. DH had won a £30 voucher from the local radio station for the restaurant - thank you very much.
So not much will be needed for tea - DH is sleeping off lunch & I'm sitting here like a lump.

But back to work tomorrow - so must go and iron, wrap the last of the Christmas pressies (we're not seeing them until later in the week so there was no rush) and check lunch position for tomorrow.
We're car sharing for the next 3 days so will save fuel and then I'm off for another 4 days (happy dance).

I'm still working on my plans for the New Year - I don't think I'll add any more but I will need to refine my "how do I know I've achieved this setting".

So off to wrap the pressies before looking at the ironing board and sob (I hate ironing)

have a good night folks & I'll catch up tomorrow
