Ccj problem which I just can't fix

Hello,
Here's a complicated story for you.
I'm looking to buy a house so I've gotten my credit report to find a ccj on it. This ccj is registered at an address that doesn't fully match up with any of my previous addresses. It's got correct postcode and house number but Street is wrong.
Anyway
I never knew anything about it.
Few years back I got into debt. Now I've paid all defaulted accounts in full except this ccj as I didn't know about it until last week.
I contacted the court and they gave me a solicitors to ring. From there I found out it was from curry's and HSC finance which is now owned by HSBC. It defaulted in 2009 and court ccj date is 08/12/2010. So it's got a year left. However this is where it gets frustrating.
I don't mind paying it. If someone would own up to the debt.
HSBC sold it on to lowell back in 2011 and they have closed the debt off as it's older than 6 years and wiped it off. I have been told by an adviser for a debt charity to just ignore it for the year and save more money for my house. I don't think this is good advise. I'd rather pay it or get it removed from my record as it's not possible to pay it because the owners of the debt have written it off.
What can I actually do?

Hi,
After six years it will fall off your file, so won't be visible to anyone.
And if no one is chasing you, or is likley to chase you, for it, then you can just forget about it, as advised.
If Lowell have written it off, then it will stay written off.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Unfortunately, there doesn't appear to be much you can do in this situation. Paying the debt off in full would not result in it being removed from your file, it would only change the status from defaulted to settled. The CCJ will be on your file for 6 years whether it is paid or not. If Lowell have refused the payment for the debt and they have not sold/ passed it on then all you can do is wait for it to come off your file.
Please be aware though, once a CCJ is obtained the debt can be enforced beyond 6 years if the creditor can prove the judgement, so it does seem strange that Lowell would 'wipe off' a valid debt that still appears on your file and that they can currently enforce...how did you find out the debt had been closed/ wiped off?
