Don't know where to start!

I had a v v good credit rating until the breakdown of my marriage, my husband left taking himself away from the debts they were mostly in my name & refusing to pay any of the mortgage or for the children but that's another story...

Well I have managed to keep my head above water just but earned some CCJ's whilst doing so as I had to decide what were the priority debts.

I am now in a much better position and want to improve my credit score of 303 but I have no idea how to. Can anyone assist please?

I have 4 CCJs one from 2011 ( almost 10k) which also has a charging order attached to the house, and 3 small ones totalling less than £3k from 2013. what do I need to do??

Thanks in advance

Your debits will show for 6 years even if you do pay them off, they should show as 'satisfied'.

There isn't a great deal you can do to increase your credit score whilst you have 3 (is that right?) unsatisfied CCJ's against your name. Paying them off would improve it sligtly but as said before, they will still show.
    :p
  • Thanks for the advice, I know they will show but I want to show that I'm dealing with them. I have paid one in full but it doesn't show as satisfied, how can I amend this?

    Hi Riley

You'll need to show the court some evidence that the debt has been paid in full - a receipt or acknowledgement from the creditor, for example. The court will then notify Registry Trust who will update their records and in turn will pass this information on to the credit reference agencies.

There isn't really an intermediate marker to show that you are paying a CCJ off - it'll simply show as either outstanding or satisfied. You could, I suppose, add a "notice of correction" to your report if you want to highlight any mitigating factors behind your adverse credit. Our fact sheet is worth a read:

  • Thank you. If I take a receipt into the Court office will that be enough?

Why do you want to improve your fictitious credit score ?

Are you intending to borrow more money ?

With CCJ's you will not get any more credit, the score you see is a number made up by the credit reference agency, no one else sees it but you.

It's all a part of there marketing strategy in order to sell you credit improvement products, which are also a con.

Your credit will be ruined for six years until the CCJ's drop off your file, until then, don't waste time worrying about it.

  • As has been pointed out, that 303 number means nothing - it certainly does not mean much to any potential lenders.

The best thing you can do to make yourself more attractive for credit is to keep paying at least min payment on everything and clear anything with dthe fault/ccj etc. On

But do consider why you want to improve you "credit score". I bang on about it all the time on here, but I see lots of people really fretting about this and worrying about future credit when really they need to try and get out of that habit - to get debt free (why we are all on this forum) and stay there. These ccjs are here to stay, best sorting out your finances and, if you are looking for something like a mortgage, saving for a deposit / researching.
  • Thanks northern999 how do I clear the default / ccj? I want to improve my credit score as I hate being in this position which was not of my making. I have always been in a good position with any credit I've taken and paid it off in full and on time - the debts which are now associated to me were not of my making and when I found out about them I could not afford to pay them.

I have paid one in full and have almost paid off my house too in the past few years but want to clear my name ( if possible ) once and for all but I have no idea how or where to start.

as per the previous answers, they will drop off your file after 6 years.
  • Thanks Caz3121 I know they will drop off after 6 years but wonder if it will improve things if I satisfy them. If that makes sense
