I've been conned - need advice

This is the problem with property in the UK. You should be happy that you have bought a home to live in - not worrying about it's monetary value.
A house is only worth what a person is willing to pay for it.0 -
You got what you wanted.
Be happy.
I am waiting for the housepricecrash to buy at proper value.0 -

Don't make this bigger than it needs to be, it will all sort itself out in the long term.
Let me share an experience. We bought a house on a small development a few years ago. The house was just what we wanted and we willingly paid top dollar. But shortly after exchanging contracts, the world economy went to custard. The last IDENTICAL house remained unsold for yonks. Then two years later it sold for well over £100,000 less than we paid for ours. Yep, that's not a typo. £100,000+. Imagine how that felt. We had been complete mugs.
But... the house was great. We lived in it. Our kids grew up with space around them. The garden started maturing, as did the whole development. We got on OK with our neighbours, even the ones who had stolen a £100K+ march on us... they never rubbed it in our face.
After about 6 years we moved on. The world had sorted itself out a bit, buyers had reappeared. We managed to sell for about the same as we had paid originally. Now it is history and I don't lose a moments sleep over what could have been.
So my suggestion is to just get on with your life, and enjoy living in your new house.
Thats actually a really touching story. Thank you for sharing it,and thank you to everyone else who gave their input. I shall keep you informed of any developments. I'm actually feeling much better about it now that the initial shock has worn off.0 -
Why have you been conned?
If you have exchanged contracts there is nothing you can do.
You have bought a house at a price you were happy with.
I agree with this. Some people are better at negotiating.
I bought some ham from Tesco on Saturday evening and it was on offer (half price) when I went back on Sunday morning.
I use to worry about house prices a lot before I bought. Maybe there was a problem with the other house? Congratulations on the purchase.0 -

Or a problem with the ham"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

I probably paid too much for my new house. It was the last one on the development ( we lived opposite as we had already bought a previous house - builder was slow ) .....I watched my house get built to my spec - builder let us add lots of extras. He knew I wanted/ must have / needed that house and I paid a premium for it. Ive never regretted it. It took a while for the house to " catch up " in prices and now because of what it is - its escalated. But I wont sell ever though.
OP - I bet you got a great plot and placement for being first ? Like pick of the litter ? Lol. In the grand scheme of things £10k isnt that much and Im sure once you move in etc all will be forgotten.
Buying first house is always a nervous experience but you havent been conned. Its just the way demand and flow goes on developments.Stuck on the carousel in Disneyland's Fantasyland

I went into Tesco yesterday and bought two bags of potatoes for £1.00 each.
When I was in there today I saw they were now selling them 'buy one, get one free' so I paid double what anyone buying them today did.
I feel conned and want to know how I can complain...
Prices of things change all the time and i'm sure if the price of all the other houses had gone up by 10 grand overnight you wouldn't be complaining!
At the end of the day you were happy to pay the price you paid otherwise you wouldn't have bought it so anything else is irrelevant.0 -

I looked at the site plan for a development near us.
One of the house designs is "L" shape rather than rectangle.
This means good access to the garden from living room and a kitchen diner both rooms double aspect.
Some of the plots have great gardens, west over other gardens so great late sun as it drop in the sky. others are east or shaded by houses close by. One plot has a garden about twice the size of the others.
Problem is the one with the best garden has a rubbish garage/parking arrangment.0
