Defering SP simple question.

I wish to defer my SP for about 6yrs or so.
Since I will be 65 in 4 days time and have not had anything from the Pensions people I thought I would check the government pension web site.
Although I couldn’t see anything specific to how to defer the SP it did imply that if you simply did nothing (I'm good at that) it would automatically be defered.
Is this correct or will not contacting them cause problems?

"Your State Pension will be automatically deferred until you claim it."0 -
...' but I would be concerned as to why you weren't send the invitation to claim.
I would contact them anyway to confirm what the actual amount being deferred was?0 -

The OP (who said in a previous post that he has not worked or claimed benefits for ten years) seems to have had a forecast in January?

I would still worry about why the BR33 hasn't turned up and, being in the IT industry, I never trust computers to get things right.
If I deferred I would want to know, with certainty, how much I was deferring in case the forecast was wrong.0 -
I have just done this, I am 65 in 10 days. Telephone 0800 7317898 with your National Insurance Number. They will send you written confirmation if you ask for it.
This is more important if you are claiming a benefit such as carers allowance. You will have to stop claiming certain benefits.0 -
Thank you for all the replies.
Yes I did get a forecast as to what I might be getting. However that forecast was just an estimate which was based on the assumed that I had not opted out of serps(?). Don’t think I did but have a niggling feeling that I may have for a few years a long time ago. They should know, so why they had to base figure on an assumption I don’t understand.
But that is all I have received.
Don’t know what a BR33 is, if its not the forecast.
Will phone that number tomorrow and hopefully they can give me the actual amount I would be receiving as if it is a lot less then I may have to change my plans as laid out in my previous thread.
P.S. @xylophone Still working on how to get the Flexy Access Drawdown. Not as easy as I thought. May have to go down the IFA route

I believe the BR33 is the letter that you should have automatically received around four months prior to reaching SPA, which outlines the options available to you and includes details on how to claim your state pension (by phone, post or online)0 -

The link in post 2 above covers this,
"If you get benefits
You’ll need to tell the Pension Service you want to defer."
but the OP
has said in his other thread that he does not claim any benefits.

What is causing the difficulty?0 -
Of the companies approached so far they either won’t talk to me directly or use a lot of jargon that just goes over my head.
Still waiting to hear from Friends Life, with whom my pension pot is with, to see what they can offer. They said they couldn’t discuses anything about my particular policies over the phone but would post details. That was over 2 weeks ago.
Also a bit shocked at the level of charges for “managing” a simple drawdown. Can’t be much work for them, but over the course of a few years the charges would be many 1000’s of £ for not doing a lot0
