Hi all,
I've been a lurker for a very longer time but only registered today to post.
Here's my story- back in 2008 I had bought my first house with my boyfriend- I had a job I loved and then out of the blue the government pulled the funding and I was made redundant- I got a new job quickly but it was less money but still enough for me to pay my way, however I was so unhappy in my new job I turned to gambling- to the point where I maxed out all my credit cards to the tune of 12k
It was now end of 2009 and I literally had maxed out credit card and overdraft and literally had no money to my name- this my my guilty secret- I had my LBM and started my dmp in jan 2010-
I managed to quit gambling and get a new job and I have been living my life and paying off my debt- will be debt free by october
My issue is I have never told my partner- I've recently looked at my credit file again- I knew I had defaults that are due to finish in 2016 but I also have creditors who have marked me as dm -does this mean they will stay on my file for 6 years from when I make the last payment
As me and my partner have a joint mortgage which I might add we have never missed or had a late payment on and a joint bank account ourely for mortgage and utility bills which are all up to date as I have this association will this have also messed up his credit file
I feel so stupid
Thanks in advance x

Don't be so hard on yourself. You had a gambling problem which you've now got under control. Your debt free date is within sight. You've got a new job that you enjoy more than the previous one.
You do need to have the conversation with your boyfriend though. You have a joint mortgage and a joint current account so you are both financially linked. It's better he hears it from you than finds out if/when you try and remortgage further down the line.0 -
Deep Breath and...... tell him. Theres a lot to proud of in your story, although he may have to get over the initial shock.
You may get your answer to your specific query on the Credit File forum.£1000 Emergency fund No90 £1000/1000

Your so close to being debt free, well done!
I have to agree with the other posts, you should really tell your boyfriend.0 -
If you have any accounts which are not defaulted then they will remain visible on your CRA files for 6 years from the date you clear the debt.0
