Problems with 'loyalty' mortgage with Santander

We have a legacy A&L current account which as far as we're concerned is now with Santander. We log into their website, have their logo on our cheque book and statements. It's used for all our DDs and our salaries are paid in every month.

We applied for a Santander/ Abbey mortgage last November and then 'upgraded' our account to a 123 account about a month later. The only thing that's changed is we now get cashback and interest. We are using the same login details, account number and cheque book.

Due to problems with the chain, we're not going to complete before the product expiry so we are going to have to pay £199 to switch to a new product.

We wanted the loyalty product which includes £250 cashback and a £500 reduction on the booking fee. But Santander say we're not eligible as a) old A&L accounts don't count as Santander current accounts and b) that's now closed anyway as we opened a 123 account in December which wasn't 30 days before application.

Any advice please?

If you change products within two weeks of offer expiry there is no £199 fee.

    The other stuff, no idea.

Thanks. We're away for 2 weeks before it expires so we need to switch before then. We also don't want to go through underwriting again at that point which they've confirmed we'll have to do if we leave it that late. Only from a hassle perspective, not because anything's changed. Seemed easier to pay £199 to do it now and not go through underwriting. It'll just be a simple switch then. Assuming they'll let us have the product we want.
