Help!!!
I've got a piece of gammon in the slow cooker in pineapple juice, it's been in there since 8am, how do I know when it's done?
I've never cooked gammon, not even in a saucepan so I don't know how to tell if it's ready or not
Thank you.

Well, I've just cooked a 2Kg gammon in ginger beer on the hob and the advice was to simmer for 20 mins per 500g and then an extra 20 mins so mine had 2 hrs in total.
Not quite sure how long this would mean in a slow cooker but hope it helps a bit!0 -
Gammon cooked in pineapple juice?....delicious!
Do you know if you bought a smoked or unsmoked joint of gammon?
If it was smoked then you are definitely fine! It was cooked when you bought it! So you can happily and confidently take it out of the cooker!
If it was unsmoked (or if you are in doubt!), you need to get a long handled fork or knife. Prod the gammon deeply at the plumpest /thickest part. Now pull it the fork out again...if it comes out easily without resistance then the gammon is ready!0 -
Or just completely forget about it till you are ready for it, it will definitely be cooked at teatime.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

It's unsmoked definitely. I'll go shove a fork in it nowOr just completely forget about it till you are ready for it, it will definitely be cooked at teatime.
I want it for slicing cold tomorrow/boxing day.
Which leads to the next question, what do I do with it when I take it out? I was going to leave it on a wire rack to drain and cool then wrap it in foil. Is that right?
How ever have I got to 49 and 3/4 without ever doing this!Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

Traditional smoked gammon is raw, its cold smoked (or more likely these days liquid smoke is added to the brine its cured in). A cooked gammon is generally referred to as a ham.0 -
Hooray, it passed the fork test, I've taken it out and obviously tried a piece, it's boomin' lovely

Sounds yum. I am gonna cook mine in the slow cooker later, in coke. I just leave it all day and forget about it usually, then cut in to it when I finally remember, and then leave it a bit longer. It's all trial and error imo.0

Sounds delicious may try that some time. Not worth us buying a piece of gammon for just two of us.0

We had the ham yesterday, it was absolutely beautiful, cooked perfectly and a wonderful flavour. I'll definitely be making it again.
