Hello everyone!
I was thinking of making Jamie Oliver's "get ahead gravy" this Christmas, but I was wondering in the spirit of 'old style' does anybody make use of the ingredients that don't make it through the sieve? I.e the mashed chicken wings, carrot etc? It just seems a bit wasteful?

I would just add some chicken stock to it and maybe a handful of dry noodles and make a quickie soup. When life hands you lemons, ask for tequilla and salt and give me a call!!!0

That's a great idea thanks, my OH will love that. Can I ask those that that've made this gravy, is it worth the effort? Say compared to using a knorr chicken gravy pot?0

Definitely worth the effort, have made it several times. I don't usually do anything with the leftover bits though.0

I would serve up the chicken without squishing it along with some of the veg, add blob of mash and make a meal out of it. There would be enough gravy for that meal and for Christmas day,Clearing the junk to travel light
Saving every single penny.
I will get my caravan0 -
Thanks everyone, that's answered all my questions:beer:
I'll definately be making the effort and getting this done and dusted before the big day. I've only made gravy once from scratch and the family kept wandering into the kitchen as I was busily mashing neck and giblets into the roasting pan. Big babies that they are none of them wanted to even try it after that, although when they eventually did they said it was delicious.
So by making the gravy ahead I'll be protecting the squeamish!:D0 -
For anyone who has dogs, add a couple of eggs, a glug of olive oil and garlic and blend together. Add flour to a dropping consistency, put into a greased meat pan and mark into squares with a knife. Bake in the oven for 1 1/2 hours at 175c. Dogs love these biscuits which are all pure with no colourings etc., and cost pennies. If you have any of the carrot peel or other veg left-overs add these too before blending.0
