What to do when someone dies?

Gut wrenchingly one of my close relatives has been told he has quite a limited time left.
I will need to help out re potential intestacy, a will if I can get him to do one, funeral, registering death etc.
Obviously I want to do as good a job as possible. Can anyone recommend a decent UK based book on dealing with practicalities?

Speak to a local solicitor who deals with probate?Stephen Covey once said that "when you teach once, you learn twice". That is the primary reason for my participation on the forums as an IFA.
Although I strive to provide accurate information in my posts, there may be the odd time when I fail. Yes I know it's hard to believe but even Your Hero can make mistakes. Apologies in advance.0 -
Simple question that decides for you.
Do they have any wealth or money
The answer is yes or no.
That makes the decisions.I do Contracts, all day every day.0 -

Have a look at Martin's guide: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/family/what-to-do-when-someone-dies
Also the gov.uk guide: https://www.gov.uk/after-a-death/overview
Ask any questions on the Probate board here http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=217
Lots of helpful people.
Tip for now: if you do manage to get a will done do not make a solictor the executor. You can always pay for legal help if you need it, but if you make a solicitor the executor you are tied to them and if they are rubbish or drag things out there's nothing you can do.0 -
Thanks - especially for the links!
