Has anyone heard of this organisation ? They cold called my elderly mother in law who let them visit her in her own home. In a nutshell she has signed up to some sort of document setting up a trust whereby half of ther house is to be signed over to my wife. This is supposedly to protect her property from being sold to pay for care fees.. She gave them a cheque for £1,400 and has a 2 week cooling off period. [TEXT DELETED BY FORUM TEAM] I don't know.

I would use the cooling off period to try to get her money back.

Go and talk to a solicitor about a [TEXT DELETED BY FORUM TEAM] will and estate planning - it will be much cheaper.

hey cold called my elderly mother in law who let them visit her in her own home.

Solicitors cannot cold call or accept business from a cold call. So, the name is somewhat misleading I suspect for most people. This firm will not be a solicitor. [TEXT DELETED BY FORUM TEAM]

  • Hi,

Being married to a solicitor I am venturing my second ever post with her help.

Attempting to avoid care costs is very difficult and definitely not something you can do at the last minute. The government will claim that your mother in law impoverished herself and make her pay anyway. That is generally the case, but this might be some fantastic scheme which is immune.

I doubt it though, and so does the other half. Cold calling, particularly for things of this nature is evil and a bad idea. Cancel the cheque at the bank and lodge a complaint with the company and if your mother in law can't explain what she has bought also complain to the Solicitors regulator as she has clearly been talked into signing something she does not understand.

Best thing to do is go to a trusted local solicitor who can listen in detail to your situation and explain to you what your options are, if any. Just like financial advice it is money well spent. £1400 sounds like a ridiculous amount, and I suspect that they made themselves administrators of the trust which means potential ongoing annual costs too.

Best of luck, and if you need help tackling this consider getting in touch with a local solicitor. They may also suggest that your mother in law is helped with her finances by your partner and other siblings if it is a struggle for her.

    Kind regards,
    HH

Thanks for all your responses. The cheque has been cancelled at the bank (cost £10) and a letter sent to them to cancel.

Would be interested to know the surname of the Alan #### mentioned in the previous post.

Melissa Barnes worked for Minster Legal Services (UK) Ltd, Express Law Ltd and Synergy Legal and is therefore connected to all aforementioned companies.

Kay Morley has also worked for Express Law Ltd and Synergy Legal and is also therefore connected to aforementioned companies.

Their website appears unfinished yet in the public domain. Would you trust a company who shows no address on their website, only "M&M Business Centre" Shows no telephone number and their "Your Questions" page is in a completely different language and not relevant to their business at all.

    More updates soon.

    Thankyou for reading.

I've had these people cold call my parents with the exact same tactic and unfortunately they've been duped as well. They did it yesterday and will be cancelling the cheque tomorrow and sending their cancellation form back.

I'm arranging a meeting with a local solicitors where, by surprise, an old school friend works.

Be very wary of these people and their approach to "helping" the elderly and vulnerable.

I've contacted the Solicitors Regulation Authority and will keep everyone updated.
