Sharing Comps on Facebook is NOT allowed

I received the following information in a blog newsletter today from Always Be A Friend. The link is:-
http://alwaysbeafriend.com/sharing-comps-on-facebook-is-not-allowed/

I was not sure whether I am allowed to reproduce the whole article. It is very relevant to those of us who do Facebook comps. I actually skip those saying you need to share as I do not want to fill up friends' pages. Some of you may know all this already but if you like me are not au fait with the rules governing Facebook comps it is an interesting read.

Companies always seem to twist the rules by saying - like and comment to enter but a share would be great/and tell you friends (ie they want you to share but are not directly asking you) And they probably pick a winner from the sharers!
:TA big thanks to all who post and sprinkling lucky dust to all who enter :smileyhea

    This one interested me:

    Not allowed to:
Have anyone who likes your page be entered to win (contest does not take place on the timeline).

Now I've always wondered about the Home Bargains competitions - they post up about 5 posts a week saying "like this post now for your chance to win £100", yet when asked about it they always say "we just pick one person a week who likes our page" so in other words they're saying you DON'T actually need to like the competition posts themselves??? I'm always confused over those.

It's about a year ago that the rules changed so that an app does not have to be used for running competitions (not that having the rule in place made much difference anyway).

Although a company should not make a "share" an entry condition there is nothing to stop them saying "it would be nice if you could share" etc and then only selecting the winner from those who have shared.
