Hello everyone. Welcome to the Weekly Spend Challenge. This challenge is open to anybody, no matter what financial place they are in. Everyone is welcome here.

On this thread please post an amount of money you wish to stay below within the week (Sunday to end of working day on Friday). This can be pennies or thousands it depends on the individual. Then next Saturday report back and pledge for the following week. The challenge runs from Sunday to Friday so we don't include Saturdays but feel free to change the rules to suit you and include Saturdays or start on a different day.

Feel free to update this thread with daily spends if that keeps you on track. We colour code the results as below:

Green - within budget
Red - over budget
Purple - zero spend
Orange - made money over the week

This is a little bit of fun but for many it highlights the fact that maybe that magazine/chocolate bar isn't needed. Hopefully your spending habits can be changed forever.

Moozie was the founder of this challenge and here is a quote taken from her:

The challenge is about incidental spending and not for stuff that should be budgeted elsewhere such as bills, groceries, debt repayment etc but you decide what to include at the end - this is about changing your habits and improving your recording of your spends more than anything else. Have a great week everyone and keep it low!!! Moozie x"

So last week was enlightening, budget blown in one fateful (but delicious) trip to an indian restaurant. Lets see if i can make up for it this week!

I'm gonna change the rules and count spending on food and travel as 'spends' this week. I want to try and spend less on food so this should help with that!

I'll raise my target to £20 maximum for the week.

I've already spent £4 on bus fare yesterday so £16 remaining.

  • Welcome to the challenge cat4772, great to have you here!

    Welcome back Aphidgirl!

Hope you both have a great week - will update the first post in a mo.

My pledge for this week is £20. I also have £2.56 in reserve in my change jar from last week if needed, but hopefully I'll add to it rather than take away!

  • Hello again...well my £20 budget also went down the pan in some ways but what I had listed included everything including food (a bit of a diary of spending) as we are in the early stages of working the future out with our debts and budgeting etc.

So..this week I am going to pledge £20 again - that means I have £15 left as I foolishly was looking on the grabbit section and saw Lulu Guinness in the sale :o but was £15 well spent imo (was originally £50) and is something I would use on a daily basis (i am T1 diabetic so would use it for my insulin and blood testing equipment) rather than the pencil case that I currently use that has seen better days! I would have normally bought the brolly too (I love that) but I refrained and talked myself out of that one! I could include this in the medicines/health category though?

Justification over and therefore I have £15 left! I am feeling hopeful this week :)

No judgement or justification needed! Enjoy your purchase!

£3.40 spend for me today on some extras for lunch. Remaining = £16.60.

  • Can I pledge £20? I work my budget slightly differently I think, so this just covers extras... I'm hoping I'll stick well within it although it being summer holiday I think is going to make this a trickier time of year than usual!

  • Ah I should mention I have already spent £3.11 on misc food in tesco whilst visiting friends in Devon. I didn't remember this until I checked in with my trusty budget app on my phone when I hauled my knackered self into bed just now ! :o

My maths aint great by the looks of it :rotfl:. Perhaps that's why we're in this mess :o I was supposed to pledge £30! Hence I had £15 left!

Ok hubby got some bread and milk £3.45
I also got some eggs at £1.98

That leaves £9.57 (oh gosh its only Monday)!! It could be a loooooong week!!

    £1.30 spent yesterday on shampoo.

Discovered my bike helmet had been stolen (I left it attached to my D-lock in town) but I have used £10 from my emergency fund to cover the cost of a replacement. Amusing as I only started the emergency fund this month and have only paid in £10 so far! So I've used it straight away :)

    So £16 - £1.30 = £14.70 remaining. Aiming for a NSD today :)
