    Morning

Latest news on my aunt is that she's comfortable and they are running tests

I slept better last night than I have all week. It's been hard to 'switch off' and things keep going round and round in my head. I'm pleased though as had fully expected to be dreaming about remortgages since I spent a large chunk of yesterday afternoon looking into those!

As well as the one from the P.O I mentioned yesterday, there is one from HSBC which also looks to be a possibility. Does anyone have any experience with HSBC mortgages? Comments appreciated.

It appears I didn't win the lottery overnight....surprised? :rotfl:Back to work tomorrow it is then...

I've also been reserching car insurance as mine is due towards the end of the month. As expected, my renewal has gone up (thanks to the accident I was involved in during the summer) :( I really do find it a boring task

I've got a pile of house chores to do today (as did practically none yesterday) but at the moment, not feeling very motivated to do them!

:coffee: more coffee I think... :D

Only ever held a mortgage with HSBC so I cant comment on how they compare to others. However........ Viewing it with online banking and being able to make transfers online (credits immediately from my HSBC acc) is a big plus for me. They should allow 10% OP per year (based on amount outstanding at start of the year).

Out of interest is it the 1.84% 2yr fix with no product fees? Been looking at that myself but have a while till I can apply.

Initial mortgage (Dec 2012) £108,000 3.84%APR MF date Jan 2038

    Mortgage remaining £68285
    Daily interest £4.28

    MFW #14 £3746.90/£10,000
  • I forgot to add....

Sorry to hear about your aunt. Hopefully its nothing too serious.

Appreciate the feedback and I'm quite cheered to know you can view online as that is something I currently have and enjoy as a feature. I don't have a HSBC bank account though - I wonder if that will affect that?

Yes it is. The fee version is marginally cheaper but it doesn't appear to include the valuation ..so when factoring that in..the fee free one looks better overall.

I'm not clear whether legal fees are included...but guess I would find that out at application stage?

    Thank you :)
  • Not sure on the fees front. I paid precisely zero to remortgage, but was already with HSBC. The valuation was computer based but this may well be different for those coming from elsewhere.

What legal costs are actually involved? Not really something I know a lot about, but you already own the property and are just servicing the debt secured on it.

With £80,000 mortgage you are likely better off with a fee free product if you can find one. All the lowest rate ones I've seen have fees of 1-2 grand, and in reality you'd probably only be saving £15 a month on the repayment.

Thanks MC - I've not remortgaged to a new lender before either. Like you, last time I moved on to a new deal with the current lender. I could do that again but I think there are better deals to be had by moving. Still looking into it all.

It's times like this I would really like to have someone else to discuss this stuff with :( I thought decisions were meant to get easier as you got older??... I seem to get more indecisive/less confident :o

On a slightly more positive note.. . I managed to get all my chores done today..and even left the house to pop to the shops for some more white vinegar (true MSE style ;))

I've also made HM burgers for tea...been ages since I've had them. I've tried a new herb/spice mix for it - so hoping it turns out ok

  • Aww BW - sorry to hear that you've got the New Year's blues and that your aunt is unwell. Sending you a (dodgy looking) hug to hopefully cheer you up a little. :grouphug: Well done on hitting your target with your LTV rate and your survey earnings are fantastic! I've never changed mortgage provider before so I'm afraid I can't help with that but if you share your thoughts on here then I'm sure our fellow MFWers will be able to help out. :) Oooh snap, I was going to make burgers too for tea tonight but got invited to my Mum's so will make them later on in the week. Hope they were yummy.

Evening. Feeling very Mondayish today...but on the plus side it's one day nearer to the weekend ;)

MG - Thanks for the hugs. Much needed and very much appreciated :) The burgers were ok. I tried a new spice/herb mix and I think I used a bit too much (despite following the suggested amounts). It meant they were not quite as tasty as I hoped...but still pleasant enough. Hope yours turn out better!

Nothing to report on the money front. No survey payments and no OP's

  • Belated happy new year and hope the remortgage goes smoothly. X
Paid off mortgage nine years early in 2013. Now picking and choosing our work to fit in with the rest of our lives!
Still thrifty though, after all these years:D
