cleaning mank off top of kitchen units!

At long last, we are about to replace our kitchen doors and worktops, I can hardly wait! I'd really like to take the grease and grime off the tops of my cupboards as we are keeping the actual carcasses and they are pretty brubby and greasey. Can anyone reccomend a good cleaning method/product preferrable cheap! I am 33 weeks pregnant so something that is not going to intoxicate me and perhaps make the job a little easier than scrubbing with all my might would be appreciated thanks!
Me debt free thanks to MSE :T

I did mine last week ! I used Starclens (big brother to stardrops) on one of those little sponges with a green scourer on one side.
Didnt create any fumes for me, and I hope its not you having to get up on cupboard tops to scrub them !Mortgage, we're getting there with the end in sight £6587 07/23, otherwise free of the debt thanks to MSE help!0 -
Sugar soap is good and no fumes either. Again use a pan scrubber or better still get your other half up there!0

once you've cleaned them, use wall lining paper (or cheap wallpaper) on the top. Then you can just chuck it away and replace it when it gets unky.
Or you could use newspaper.0 -
I have some old 80's white units in my utility room and they had a stain on there which I couldn't shift for love nor money!
I bought some good old fashioned scouring powder, sprinkled some on, gave it a scrub with a damp sponge and hey presto! stain gone! It didn't scratch the worktop or the cupboards. :j
Don't overlook good old fashioned stuff such as scouring powder! It still has it's place in the cleaning arsenal~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Good old fashioned cream cleaner (jif/cif) or shop's own. Spread on in a layer by hand whilst wearing washing up gloves (not with a cloth, coz most of the jif will just be sucked up by the cloth) and allow to sit for 10 mins to get to work. Scrub off.
Stained bits and sticky marks respond well to baby sterilizing fluid (milton or shop's own). Milton is fab on those horrible orangey red curry grease stains - even works the following morning!0 -
try using a wallpaper scraper to lift the gunk up with no chemicals- i'd get OH to do it:cool::love: married to the man of my dreams! 9-08-090

I agree stardrops are ace at cutting through grease and grime, lemon juice also breaks through grease if your finding it hard to shift:xmastree:Is loving life right now,yes I am a soppy fool who believes in the simple things in life :xmastree:0

We did ours when we moved in here, and they hadn't been cleaned since the unit had been built.... 7 years ago!
Just used my normal household spray which I make from half vinegar, half lemon and a squeeze of washing up liquid in a spray bottle. Worked a treat.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
