Philips Network Powerline Kits

Options

Looks like 3 deals altogether on Philips kit. You just plug these into a power socket to create an instant wired network. I find them much better than wireless...faster, no drop outs or inconsistancy. Shame I didn't see these a few weeks ago when I paid £70 for no name kit.

85Mb Twin Pack £50
85Mb Single £25
14Mb Twin pack £35

Compare that to say Ebuyer for a generic 85Mb kit at £70+ and its a pretty good deal.

What sort of range? I want to hook by Xbox 360 and Xbox (running XBMC) to the network in my loft so I can watch movies from the fileserver and download stuff of the internet like Youtube (there are scripts for this on XBMC)

Has any one used this kit for Xbox 360 and or XBMC, was thinking of using a hub as I'd no have both on together

    LAN in loft
    Power
    Living room ----XBMC / 360

I live in a 30s semi the wifi reach is fine and stable but wireless bridges seem to be expensive and insecure. I need phyical Ethernet for the XBMC and the 360

Should work no problem. As long as you have a plug socket in your loft.

I use Devolo ones to link to my XBMC and XBOX 360 no problem at all. You might want to get the 200mps ones though like I have. Can stream HD content to the 360 if you have Windows MCE. The 85mps will stutter on playback.

I stream all my TV from my PC to the living room using 85Mb units and they work fine. Plus 200Mb units are still really expensive.

Can I ask what kit do you use for this? It is something I am looking into. I would like a load of divx and mp3 stuff on my PC, and to stream it to a receiver in the lounge.

Also - I know this is sad - but is there any software for PC which will let you stream Karaoke-type stuff? (blush) I can think of a very occasional use for this, but don't want to be so sad as to have a dedicated box in the living room for it!

It may help with you BT Broadband dropping out. But only if its your wireless connection causing it.

I use my Xbox 360 with TVersity to stream everything to my TV. Its a brilliant solution.
Theres nothing that stream Karoke. You can stream music and sing along of course but you won't see the words. Easiest way to do it is stream Karaoke videos with the words on the screen. That you can do easily.

Give these a punt. Easiest thing in the world to use. Just plug in and go.
  • What type of throughput do you get on the 200mbps ones? I have mimo wireless at the moment and although its very fast(108mbps) , i actually get reliable 25mbps but thats through 4 walls and 2 floors in a old house with thick walls(right next to the router i get a 108mbps), i want to able to stream HD over my network .
