Whole/half onions in microwave?

I've been looking after a tricky wrist by halving unpeeled onions and roasting them, instead of peeling and chopping.

My oven door has just fallen off again (I'm going to have to admit defeat) and I wondered whether anyone has cooked halved onions in a microwave. I suppose I'd have to start by peeling them.

Googling hasn't helped. They are to be used to make refried beans, if that's relevant.

I can't see why not. I'd put a little water in with them, so they steam.

Go cautiously - onions contain a fair amount of sugar and will therefore burn if you microwave them for too long. I'd take them out and prod them every couple of minutes until you're happy that they're done enough.

Alternatively, why not put them in a pan with a little water and boil them?

    Because:
    a) that would be much too simple, and
    b) I have no brain today.

    Thank you!
