Statute barred debt?

Hello,
I'm sorry to be hijacking this thread but I was hoping for some advice.
I've been having to deal with continual chasing by debt companies pursuing alleged debt regarding a Nationwide account. I did have a Nationwide account between 2001 - 2007 but I believe that the building society allowed the account to rack up overdraft fees.
Keynes Collections has sent a Notice of Intended Legal Action (as an aside they dated the letter 7th April thought the letter arrived after the 10th).
I believe that this debt is statute barred, though I have heard worrying stories of debt agencies underhandedly making payments to accounts to keep debts active. I have not received any evidence of payment, written acknowledgment of any outstanding debt in the last 6 years or a copy of the signed credit agreement.
I have drafted a letter setting this out and quoting the Debt Collection Guidance.
Could I please get some advice as to what I should be doing to fight this?
Thanks.

So a letter along the one here?

That is pretty much it, if there are no other issues?
If they claim an acknowledgement or payment then the burden of proof is on THEM to prove that, not on you to disprove it.

Thank you for the reply.
I've sent the letter today.
I assume that they'll try to pursue despite the lack of evidence.
Is there anything I should look out for and any next steps that I should be prepared for?
Really appreciate the advice.
