as far as I can see it all they need to do is input all items including postage and the add a credit to the account to cover postage - they must be able to do this to correct any input errors - even if they have to be creative in doing so

They could easily do the order on your behalf, I've had companies do it when online codes weren't working and it's been their fault. Definitely don't stop emailing them, £40 for delivery is outrageous!

I work in online mail order and there is absolutely no reason for them to take this approach.
The £40 postage is a bit bizarre as couriers all work on weight of the parcel, but 1 top or 5 tops (for example) isn't going to make a difference. We use 6 difference couriers and their first weight break is 1kg, then 5kg (even those on a next day, signed for and tracked service only cost us £4.25 and £4.75 respectively, and we're just a small family-run business with just 3 employees, only one shop and not masses of outgoing).
They will be able to cancel the current voucher for £50, create a new one for £90 and manually process the order their end so that you don't pay anything. It's just a case of getting them to do it!

Stick to your guns though. There's no chance in hell they're being charged £40 shipping by the courier, so they'll essentially be making profit from your win if you pay the shipping fee.

a quick look at their facebook page and I would be wary of giving them money as they have got no comments on their fb page from the public at all, which means either no one knows about them and i'd be worried about getting my money back should a small company like that fold or else they delete all the comments as negative, which is equally worrying.
Starting afresh - comping as much as poss!

Hoping for: some beauty goods, clothes, amazon vouchers, anime, manga, wardrobe, fridge freezer, laptop, an ipad, vouchers for next, exercise goods, a uk break and a wee hol somewhere nice!
    Wishing all a little luck:beer:

I have looked in the past and could find nothing on the IPM/ASA websites about delivery charges on prizes, only this from the Gambling commission where a free to enter competition can still meet the requirements of the gambling Act 2005 while making a normal delivery charge.

As stated in paragraph 4.4, the definition of ‘payment to enter’ includes cases where there is a requirement to pay to collect the prize. In the Commission’s view, that does not mean that prize winners cannot be required to pay normal delivery or other normal costs needed to obtain or use the prize. For instance, the Act’s provisions do not, in the Commission’s view, prevent the organiser of a competition in which a camera is a prize requiring the winner to pay normal delivery costs which might be charged if that same camera was bought from a retailer. Nor, clearly, does it prevent the winner of a car being required to pay road tax. But there can be no additional payment over what it would normally cost to pay for delivery or use

It'd probably work out cheaper for you to drive to Birmingham and pick them up instead!! 40 pound postage for clothes... ridiculous!!

I thought I'd give you all an update!

With much back and forth from the company and how I should give them my bank details to pay for the obscene postage (£49 nearly), I suggested I send them all the links of what I wanted and that they should sort it out their end.

Well, it's only taken nearly 3 months from the original win, but I have eventually got my prize in the post yesterday!

Thank you for all your help and advice! It's really appreciated! Phew....thank goodness it's all over!

I always point out that I should not be expected to pay postage for a prize even if it is a voucher so far it has always worked - saved me £30.00 delivery on a chair recently. Once you dig your heels in they tend to come around.

btw the way they got around the postage charge was for me to make as if I was paying by paypal and then not make the payment, I then sent them the order reference and they sorted it out at their end.
