There have been so many benefits from facing up to my gigantic, out-of-control credit card debt and learning to budget within my slender means.
Chief amongst them is -- a decent night's sleep. Ten years ago I thought my brain was somehow 'programmed' to wake up in the small hours every night feeling anxious and low. Now I know it was just my subconscious trying to make me -- literally -- "wake up". Most nights I sleep straight through now and it's wonderful.
Debt £21,000ish (Down from £29,183 May 10) Income £18,000 (up from £13,500 in 2010)
What we've achieved -
* The ability to budget
* The sense of control over the debt (rather than the random tumbling and sliding out of control)
* A sense of achievement as each debt it wiped out
* The knowledge that we will never again owe over £40k, nor £30k and soon, it will never be over £20k and then £10k and then £5k.... you get the idea!!
* A clear view of lender's practices and the system's determination to bring people into debt and keep them there.
