Food that doesn't require chewing

Ouch! I hope you have your pain relief sorted?
The trick when blending dinners is to blend the meat, blend the carbs, blend each vegetable individually- then you get a more appealing plate of food and can still combine tastes as you usually would.
You may find it more comfortable to eat with plastic cutlery for a while- Poundland have their picnic items on sale now. They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.0 -
Thanks for all the lovely replies. Like the idea of the baby food - it gives me a good excuse to eat the fruit purrees, lovely!
I did think about getting some vitamins/calcium. It wouldn't hurt me to lose a few pounds but I obviously want to stay as healthy as possible. I have got a stick blender but I am not sure if the appearance of some foods blended will be a bit offputting. Still beggars can't be choosers so I will give it a go.
I have been taking the maximum dose of paracetamol allowed (they are the only painkillers I can take) and thankfully I only had to pay a normal checkup fee at the dentist even though they did an x-ray, so I am feeling very grateful for that - I was worried about getting a hefty bill. I have got to go back in a couple of weeks for a checkup once all the swelling has gone down but the dentist didn't THINK there was any serious damage (ie. losing a tooth etc). Mind you I suppose it's a bit difficult to tell when my face looks like it's been pummelled.

Much sympathy - I lived off soft/liquid food for three months when my jaw was broken.
Things I ate, in no particular order, were: Porridge; Shepherd Spy:D; any form of cooked and mashed root veg; scrambled egg; yogurt; the dreaded soup (yes, I know, not something you care for).
I don't know how you feel about raw egg, but a recipe that was given to me at the hospital (this was back in the 1980s btw) was thus:
Put half a pint of milk in a jug. Whisk in a raw egg. Add a small glass of sherry and whisk again. Tip into a glass, grate a little nutmeg on the top.
It sounds awful, but it was actually quite nice, and gets you some protein from the egg.:o
I don't know if C0mplan is still available? I had that also (and hated it, I have to say).
Wishing you a speedy recovery.If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
Please be careful not to rely on bought babyfood for your nutritional needs. They are fine for very small children, but an adult`s requirements are quite different.
A lot of hospital patients have swallowing rather than chewing problems, and many are not keen on the pureed meals. Relatives are welcome to bring in home-cooked stuff that`s been blended, but our dieticians always advise against then bringing in babyfood. Hope you feel better very soon.0 -
Might be worth a visit to your GP who can prescribe some drinks, either milk based or fruit based which ensures you get all the nutrients required. My GP gave me some of them when I was too ill to eat. I hated the milk based ones (but I don't like milk shakes either!) but the fruit based ones were OK.
Hope you're feeling better soon.

lentils can be cooked until soft and various flavours added to them to make it interesting. All it needs is a few herbs and spices (think curreis, morrocan spices, cook some with herbs and tommy puree for an italian feel?) Also I don't know if your jaw could take it but something like a soft cooked risotto?Everyone has a dark side... apparently mine is called Harold?!? :huh:0

custard , rice pudding , semolina -I would always go for the puddings x0

Speaking as someone who had 3 teeth knocked out with a metal tennis racket, pretty much any meal can be put in a blender, even a roast dinner. Although it doesn't look very pretty.
I hope your mouth gets sorted soon, it's all very unpleasant, I know.0 -
Ouch poor you.
When I had to have bone spurs taken from my jaw, I lived on scrambled egg, porridge, cauliflower cheese, blended dinners with mashed potato, HM soup with bread soaked in, ground rice, semolina, blancmange, milk jelly and fruit puree.Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light
