How to explain in OR's phone call?

I went to court and became bankrupt on 27th Feb, I am really nervous about official receiver's telephone call, I have suffered from depression, panic attacks and anxiety and agoraphobia the problem is, because I have been on benefits since June 2010 my debts have spiralled as I am divorced and, my ex husband would not help my 2 children as much as he could during their time at university, my daughter is still at Uni, and I have had to use credit cards to help not only myself but my children and also help them through catalogues with clothing, bedding, household items, books etc and have got myself in the position where I was robbing peter to pay paul, all the while hoping that I would get well enough to be able to go back to work again, but this is not going to happen, in February of this year I had a heart attack and I am only 47, I am putting this down to a few things, last year I contracted pneumonia and stopped breathing and was ventilated, and the stress of being always in debt and having to help my 2 children out also, I do not know how to explain all this to the official receiver when he rings. I know I have been silly to allow my ex to get away with not helping, also he was a bully and I left him/signed over our house, car, contents and started again 13 years ago, and also to give so much help to my children. How can I explain all of this????

Hi sundance296 and welcome to the BR Board. You've had a right hard time of it and I'm sure others will post soon too but in the meantime take deep breath's and sit down and write some bullet points, please click on thread below for help to do this :

Once you have your reasons written down and clear in your own mind, you may feel you can explain to your children what has happened.
Best wishes

hi sundance, the official Receiver is going to have heard a lot of similar stories -he will be used to it. More debt than you can repay and resulting ill-health and a heart attack are simple and sensible reasons for going bankrupt. You are not going to be told you should have repaid your debts , nor will you be lectured on having been foolish.
IF's advice to write some bullet points is a good idea. In date order. It doesn't actually matter if you are muddled, but it may help you to feel a bit more in control of the process is you have some notes.0 -
Take a deep breath. You will not be the first or last to tell this similar story. Honestly, the OR interview is nowhere near as horrific as you think it will be. Most people will tell you, as long as you are honest about the decisions you made that have that have lead you to BR, the OR will be fine.
Keep dropping on to this forum for help and support, most of us have been through BR and know the roller coaster of emotions that are normal to go through.
Keep your chin up, you'll be just fine0 -
Thank you all for your comments, my telephone interview is on Thursday so I will do as you say and write some bullet points. Thank you very much for your advice.0

Hello there,
Best of luck with the interview!
The role of the official receiver is not to try and catch you out or over scrutinise any decisions you have made in the past. It's more of a fact find. Their job is to help you through the process as smoothly as possible. There is a useful guide from the Insolvency Service which explains a little more, it's worth a read:

I found my OR a nice chap in the end. During his initial call he sounded a bit "angry" but when it was the proper call to talk through my forms he was very helpful. And when I've rung up the office for advice re letters/missing statements everyone was most helpful. Do remember they are not going to judge you but their task is to go through & note down exactly what went wrong with your £ causing you to go BKT. There's no "right" or "wrong" answers.:)
I was really bricking it in the beginning but now after taking advice on here & reading through stuff it's all ok & I'm starting again! :j0
