It depends on who you've won with / what you've won?

Some companies (e.g. Quizonaut) ask for ID every time, others just for big / 18+ wins...

Is it a prize of alcohol, or a knife set or something?

Does it say in the t&c that you need to do this?

I've won a case of cider before, and had to scan my driving licence to them to claim. Just to prove I was old enough.

Can't think of anything smart to put here...

Some do ask even for very small prizes.

If it is a verified twitter account, reasonable sized company and a good prize I would probably risk it as you can block unnecessary info out as well.

  • Yes, perfume shop always ask for ID. I've won twice with them and both times I've scanned my passport with the numbers across the bottom blanked out
