Hi, I have a mortgage with my ex boyfriend who is currently living at our property (i moved out after he left me no choice, violence etc) in August due to him splitting up with me last January (2013!) . I have been to a solicitor to try and get the house sold but he is holding things up by saying he is depressed and cannot make rational decisions, meanwhile I am paying £400 a month to a house I'm not living in anymore. My solicitor gave him 21 days to reply which was up on 6th February, so i am waiting on seeing what happens next. What i really want to do is not pay at all! But i have been advised that this is not recommended... Anyway the ex contact me yesterday to say that there has been a leak within the property and that he wants me to pay for the repair. Does anyone have any advice regarding this ?
Thanks
Carly
Thanks
Carly

Say no.
Tell him to pay it and he can have half of what it costs extra from the sale of the property?
Or maybe make a claim on the insurance if its in his name?I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Who is making the mortgage payments? You? or are you relying on them coming out of his account?I am a Mortgage Broker

We are both putting our halves of the mortgage into our joint account every month (£400 each!) . Costing me a fortune. Can't see a way out right now.0

The most important thing to remember is that you are not responsible for half the mortgage, you are responsble for all of it, and so if you ex-bf.
So if either or both of you stop making the monthly payments, you will both be in default andboth of your credit ratings will be trashed.
Wait and see if you get a reply to the solicitors letter - in the meantime keep up the payments. As for the leak, tell him its his problem (not technically true but might focus his mind a bit!)0 -
Start charging him rent0

You are making it easy for him. Stop contributing and close the joint account while it is in credit. That'll focus his mind!0 -
I would love to stop contributing! But I am worried that my credit rating will be ruined if i stop paying. Because if i stop paying, so will he. There has been no reply to my solicitors letter, so I am going to have to force the sale. He will go mad. Absolutely dreading this0

Get the joint account closed, cut the financial links.
You can still pay but keep an eye on the OH paying.
Ask for rent for 1/2 market value,
If there are the bedrooms you could move a lodger in paying you.0
