Money saving isn't about scrimping on everything but using the least costly path. Letting your car run out is much more costly than filling it up.
I don't respond to stupid so that's why I am ignoring you.

    Good morning Quidsy.

I agree with you, and normally I don't allow my car to get almost empty. However, as I really don't need to drive anywhere at the moment I feel that I would rather have the money sitting in my bank instead of my car :)

Sadly, when I'm back at work next week, I will have no choice but to put at least £40 per week, but for time being, I am really enjoying the challenge of spending as little money as I possibly can.

I suppose this approach doesn't work for everyone, but when I embarked on DFW journey I have made a conscious decision to 'shock' myself into different thinking. So far, this is really working for me; I am rapidly moving away from my 'old' ways of thinking and perceiving money and stuff as part of my happiness.

I am also learning how to be more resourceful with what I already have and am very proud of my progress within such short period of time :)

I wish you a wonderful day.

  • Just to add...

I recognise that for me, my debts and general mismanagement of money, is to do with errors in my thinking brought on by my upbringing.

In order to transcend my conditioning, I really need to dig deep and deal with the root cause of it all. I recognise that small changes do add up, but they don't feel enough for me. Like I said before, I had to 'shock' my brain with bigger changes in order to introduce different reality.

Each time an old feeling or thought pops up, I sit there observing it whilst making connections to my past. This I can only achieve by 'denying' myself the things that got me into debt and made me miserable in the first place ( spending unnecessary money.)

I suppose this sounds somewhat simplistic, but if one observes, for example birds, they only take from nature what they need and leave the rest for later. It's the same for me; I take what I need and leave the rest for later ( I don't need extra fuel at the moment, so why take it?)

I used to think that I needed a lot to be happy, but the opposite seem to be true- I feel light, resourceful and happy! :)

  • My advice for diesel owners is, never run with the fuel light on.

As soon as it comes on, put some fuel in.

    Good evening lovely people :)

I am really chuffed tonight! I sold something on Gumtree for £250! Naturally, I will put this money towards paying off my o/d.

Also, I've received more 'out of date' food donations from my friends today. Overall a very productive day for me :)

I'm glad you enjoy reading my ramblings :)

I tend to not watch the news, as I find it too depressing. However, last-night ( unusually) I watched with great sadness the 'news' about ongoing flooding- how dreadful for this to happen to hundreds of families. I truly hope, they will rebuild their lives soon and put this nightmare behind them.

As I was watching the report, I couldn't help but think about the impermanence of everything in life ( nothing lasts forever.) We think we are invincible and nothing can touch us, but in reality the opposite is true!
We struggle through life, not knowing how to truly live,; holding on to things like our lives depend on them and yet, it can all end in a blink of an eye. We try to control everything, but actually have little control.

With that in mind, I've decided to live my life in gratitude ( I no longer wish to live in fear!) Yes, I have debts. Yes, I must become more money savvy, but in comparison to some, my predicament is almost laughable!

    So today I'm grateful for:

    Our health.

    Loving family and friends,

My animals, garden and nature in general.

    My warm home.

    Food and water.

    Music.

But above all, I am grateful to be ALIVE!

I wish you all a wonderful day :)

    Here here!

We are the only species that is aware of it's own mortality and yet we're all guilty of taking things for granted. We all use these boards because of some vice or misjudgment when it comes to money and at the base of that is what we believe to be a need for that *thing*.

I've always loved this quote from the book (and film) Fight Club:

“You buy furniture. You tell yourself, this is the last sofa I will ever need in my life. Buy the sofa, then for a couple years you're satisfied that no matter what goes wrong, at least you've got your sofa issue handled. Then the right set of dishes. Then the perfect bed. The drapes. The rug. Then you're trapped in your lovely nest, and the things you used to own, now they own you.” ― Chuck Palahniuk, Fight Club

    So so true.
It all takes time and time is money,
money talks and talk is cheap.

    - David Ford
  • Spot on!

We are all 'pretending' to be someone by identifying with money and accumulating stuff, without realising we are there already- with or without it!

I remember my wise mother once said to me , " You have no option but to be yourself. Everybody else is already taken."
