I'm now ready to change.

The title says it all - i'm in my early 30's, with nothing to show for the times i've been employed and around £7.5k of debt (excluding student loan of £13k). This has been all my own doing, a combination of poor choices, procrastination, existing as opposed to living and addiction that I have managed relatively poorly over the last few years.

The week leading upto and including Christmas was a heavy one - I hid behind the idea of "it's Christmas" to justify to myself spending more than I could afford on nothing more than myself and wasting money. So once again I find myself in a position of having virtually nothing until end of January payday.

I'm tired of living in this perpetual loop of nothingness and as the title suggests i'm ready to change. I've read a few diaries and have been a member for a while but it's time for me to have somewhere that I can actively track my own progress.

I know pretty much what I owe and to who - i've kept track over the last 18 months and despite paying back a fair amount my recent use of payday loans puts me back again. I'm also fortunate in that at the current time I am living back with my parents so I can put more money towards paying back what I owe. I'm in full time employment so I am in a position to deal with these debts once and for all.

I can't promise that i'll post on other diaries, I just need somewhere that I can post my thoughts/feelings and keep track of things.

    £6,996.07 - that's what I owe.

£2,200.00 of it is owed to family, and the rest is a combination of old debts that are being paid off every month and recent (and very stupid) additions for short term (or payday) loans.

The important thing for me just now is acceptance. I beat myself up a lot about the past - bad decisions, time wasted, money wasted... it's a pointless task, what's done is done.

My goal is to pay this off in 12 months. I've planned out my budget for the year and it will be tight but I must set myself a tough but achievable goal.
