Under payments what's the catch?

I have overpaid 6k to my mortgage in recent years
And am thinking of making underpayments for a few month

am I correct in saying that for the 3 months I make underpayments
Nationwide will just use my overpayment balance to pay the
Mortgage? or is their a charge for doin this?
Although I suppose it is my money, it seems to good to be true

Due to dhss not informing me that they were paying less, i make up the shortfall, my mortgage was on underpayment. Nationwide just took out what they needed on my overpayment without telling me. When i rang up they said, as i had this ,they would only tell me when it was used up. Nice of them, they did not charge me. I think this depends on your morgage terms, are you allowed to overpay without charge then i think you will not have to pay charges to take a morgage holiday, but i would ring them and not just underpay without letting them know. As i said it depends on your morgage terms.
