Selling ps4 on paypal..

My son recieved a PS4 for his birthday a few weeks back from his father. Problem is, it wasnt a ps4 he was wanting, it was an xbox one. I have told my son I will sort this out, and have been looking for a swap(ps4 isnt even opened, he has no interest in it and there are no games anyway) but decided to sell and just buy an xbox one with the money I get. Seems easier that way.
My question is, if I sell on paypal, and provide tracking numbers and such, is it safe for me? I know its really safe to BUY through paypal (their buyer protection thing is seriously good) but I'm not sure about selling.
I can't really ask his father to return it as I am scared he will think son is ungrateful and go back to giving him nothing for his birthdays/xmas, which he has done for the past 11 years of his life (he is extremely petty like that)
If this is in the wrong place, I apologize. New here and couldn't think where else to put it.

If could be safe but it could attract scammers depending on how confident you are around Ebay \ Gumtree and associated problems (e.g. Paypal Collectors doing a chargeback)..
Unlikely to get a 'swap' since the xbox one costs more..0 -
Are you selling on ebay, do you mean...
Unless I have missed something, surely as long as you have moved the money from Paypal to your account and drawn it out before you hand the console over, it will all be okBlackpool_Saver is female, and does not live in Blackpool0 -
Your safest bet may be with CEX?0

No there are lots of scams that can enable a buyer to get paypal to give them their money back (meaning they have both goods and money)
OP when selling an expensive item like this on ebay / via paypal you need to know all the possible scams and how to avoid them happening to you.
Can you try to sell in your local newspaper / advertise in local shops etc somewhere you will get a cash sale, you might not get quite as much for it but better to have less than get scammed and end up with none!
Better still could your son be persuaded to keep it rather than the xbox one? You say you don't have any games but wouldn't you need games for the xbox one as well?0 -
Ahh didnt realise they were buying on cex for 400. Will do that, thanks0

Sorry, I know this is not my thread and as OP has decided what to do, can I ask this: After you have the cash in your hands, Paypal can bill you for the money back, is that what you are saying?Blackpool_Saver is female, and does not live in Blackpool0

yesIf you pop over to the ebay board you will read of several examples of what can happen.
One could be buyer pays via paypal, sellers sends recorded delivery, buyer claims item is not as described, seller asks for item back, buyer sends back an old item (ie not the one seller sent), seller signs for an item back, paypal refunds buyer (and claims money back from seller). Cue a lot of hassle trying to prove to paypal that the item you got back is not the one you sent! It is the reason I will not sell expensive items on ebay, the majority of the buyers are honest but personally I would not take the risk.
There are other examples of buyers claiming to receive empty boxes etc0 -

Also happens with mobile phones.

There was a news article the other day of a guy who thought he had bought an Xbox One from ebay and it turned out it was just a photo of an Xbox One console box and the ad title said it was a photo. The guy got a refund in the end.0
