Something I've seen on TV recently suggests otherwise. They're flexing their muscles in the drugs trade and trying to dominate communities.

It was something about paramilitaries and the drugs trade. Spotlight I think. I knew this went on but the level to which it's penetrated Belfast society is shocking and shouldn't be allowed. These hoods are actually shooting people, including women, over their dealings.

So much for guns being off the streets eh?

the drugs, beatings and shootings are happening in most of our big towns and have been for a long time, mostly ignored by media, policitians etc...... unfortunately its going to be very difficult to move on from this here

I think it's critical to clamp down on this. The programme I saw made it clear that some of the members of these gangs are also making themselves known as "community representatives". Not the sort of people I'd want representing me.

This is all part of the Peace Process that has been signed up to. "Former" paramilitaries are now paid community representatives - I can't believe that people are so naive not to know this is what happened, as part of the process..

Yes that's the impression I got too. I mean I'm not that naive to know it wasn't going on to some extent but really I think it's time we told our MP's and MLA's we want to see an end to it.

Unfortunately though I think we're stuck with a lot of it until most of the participants of the troubles have gone to the great arms bunker in the sky.

I remember about 18 months ago when I took the memshaib to help me with mystery shopping in West Belfast. At the first stop we parked and got out to see a murial of the hunger strikers (we will remember you Jimmy Sands) and the wording below it, "Free Marion Price".

Her not being from here shouted out at the top of her voice "!!!!!! is that all about?". :rotfl:

Needless to say she was shushed up very quickly. :D

The ducks fly upside down over these areas where there are murials. Nothing worth sh1tting on below. ;)
