Why don't they play fair?

Had a Barc CC, got into problems and ended up on DMP. Partly my fault, partly beyond my control. BARC CC now sold to Cabot. Realised BARC had been putting AP on my file ever since so wrote to them and they agreed to add default as of 2010 and sent me some compensation (good of them I must admit). Cabot have since kept on putting AP and have now added a new default this month. The same account was defaulted in 2010. I have written to them on several occasions, very politely to inform them that the account has been defaulted in 2010 and they should update all entries since they bought it. No response other than that they are looking into it.
What gets me most is that this is a mid 90's card account and I am 90% sure they won't have an enforceable agreement so I could tell them to get stuffed and walk away. But I am trying to take responsibility and pay it off. I'm running out of patience and see my next move as CCA and then telling them to go relieve themselves into the wind.
Why do they have to play it this way when they are probably onto a loser all along?

CCA them mate, they wont have it now for sure, my view is this, I try to play fair with everyone, I borrowed money, hence I pay it back, but, if DCA`s start been silly with me, when im playing fair with them, I see no reason not to play the game myself, I would do it and watch them squirm when they cant produce it.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. The reson they dont play fair is because they after money at all costs even on peoples misery. They dont care about what you going through, whats happened, just intreasted in your money.
When a Debt is sold to debt collector your agreement was with the OC, so debt collector trys to trick you to get into contract with them by making you acknowege the alleged debt. So always say it is an "alledge debt" never say "debt".
Ever signed anything with a debt collector?

Complain to them, signed for, telling them to correct the default date or you will be referring to the FOS after 8 weeks or when you receive their final response, if less than 8 weeks. Cost them the referral fee, so may get a result. Inform them they will also be reported to the OFT and ICO.
At teh same time, send them CCA request. Again, no response after 14 days, send another complaint about the lack of CCA request. might get a response of we don't have it, worked for me before. But in reality, might take them longer than the allowed time as they will likely need to get it from B Card. But a complaint will keep them on their toes.
They will try and make your life hell, complaining is a chance to get your own back and keep them in check.
good luck

The CCA part of this is just a bonus in case its needed. The account is being paid anyhow.
Default dates are not allowed to be changed. Once they do this, they should expect that the OP is annoyed with them and can do things to make their life difficult.
If they have the agreement and its enforceable, the OP isn't any worse off.:beer:0 -
If they have no proof of debt you owe nothing.
its them that gotta prove to you, send them a prove it letter.0 -

Basically, yes. Plus playing fair makes less profit for this lot of pond life, while braking the rules is rarely punished. They have no incentive to act fairly.Still rolling rolling rolling......<
