Facebook Like-Farming Scams

Just read this from a link on conned by comps on facebook

http://www.hoax-slayer.com/like-farming-scams.shtml

makes interesting reading and explains why the fake pages are setup.

Have noticed the number of like and share competitions being posted on here have increased again; might be worth pausing to think if it is genuine before posting...

Great find Moneybot. Thanks for sharing. Made interesting reading, and it does make a lot of sense. Hopefully I'll be better able to judge real/fake FB comps now :T

Although that article doesn't mention it, scam pages are not restricted to L&S and can do more damage if you have signed up through an app.

True, the tescolaptop one was an app and if the link is directly to the app how many of us bother to look at the page it comes from?

I get the hoax-slayer newsletter to my inbox and recently have told a number of friends they are passing on 'alerts' on Facebook that are fake.

These scams seem to go in waves, quiet for a time and then a surge of them.

And it's going to be more likely in the run-up to Christrmas.

Soon be time for the "Parcel Delivery Services (PDS) £300 phone call" hoax to be doing the rounds again (local council were actually putting that one about last year)

(Not forgetting that these FB ones are scams and not hoaxes)

Slightly off topic but yes the fake stories keep popping up; I keep seeing the onions are bad and the lipstick kills ones...

Oh and the guy in the van looking to steal your dog.

Did anyone happen to see the investigation into buying fake likes from abroad, it was very interesting and well worth watching
