The musical features music by Elton John, and tells the story of the young, motherless Billy as he tries to learn ballet against his father's wishes. Billy's struggle to achieve his dreams is played out against the miners' strike of the mid-eighties, that his own family is caught up in. Since starting in London in 2005, Billy Elliot can now be seen in theatres throughout the world, and has gained international awards and acclaim.
