Avoiding or concealing 'back butt'

Options
Hi all, I'm a bride carrying a few extra pounds (or stones), and that's fine, it's me, I've found a frikkin awesome dress that shows off curves in the right places. The only thing I'm not keen on is when lacing it up, there's obvious back butt. That bit where one's back fat gets squished together and makes a crease, that's not part of a heavenly bridal look.

The only things I can think of to conceal this is get a lacy bolero/shrug (not overly keen as the dress has pretty straps, plus it'll be a hot day!), or, get some hair extension clips in to make my hair longer, cuz the curls ain't quite long enough to cover it (only problem with this idea is that my hair has been highlighted for past 6 months so is many different shades).

Any other ideas? Alternatively, have you had the same issue, if so, has it been an issue? Or did you just not care and had a wonderful time and realised when the photos came out that there were no pics of it anyway?

Wedding is in 5 days..
:)

    Don't lace it so tight?

5 days?! I thought I left everything to the last minute lol!

As the above comment says, it sounds like maybe it's laced up too tight, or do you need it to be regards the fit?

You're probably not going to have that many photos from the back, but are you bothered about what other people might think? I wouldn't be, I'm sure you'll look gorgeous regardless. :)

Are you getting a hairdresser on the day? Could you have a word before hand, as the extensions sound like a good idea and she might be able to blend them in depending on the style you are going for?

I take it a veil isn't an option?

Also, if the dress has straps then lacing it tightly shouldn't be as necessary as with a strapless dress.

I've got a veil, but won't be wearing it all day. There are straps but they're more decorative than supportive! I've just got visions of everyone seeing me walking in and going "oooh", then watching me walk past and going "Oh". :o

The dress will be the thing that is the most um 'supportive' (and there's a lot of support required), do you reckon it'd be ok if it was laced tight, but then the top one or two laces were a bit more loose?

A corset underneath laces tight. Your dress then isn't laced tight enough to cause the rolls.

You are right, although your friends wouldn't say anything of course they would see. But it depends if that bothers you. We can't decide for you.

Does the dress have any internal structure or is the lacing the only thing holding it together? My dress had a lace up back but had internal corsetry; my dressmaker said that the laces on a lace up dress should never be what you rely on to hold everything in place. If there's nothing else I'd agree with the corset suggestion so you can let the laces be a little looser

Mine also had an internal corset (and then buttons) I didn't realise some dresses didn't.

Won't your lace work 'loose' naturally through the day anyway and need tightening? Could you maybe attached a corset to the inside somehow?

once you lace it up, get someone to put their hand in the top of the corset and spread your back 'roll' to either side, it will reduce a bit!!

It has got some structure, but not an internal corset. I had thought about buying one previously, but didn't want to spend lots of money (and would need to for a proper one) on something else I'd likely only use once. Though I had read up that they could help with back problems too, but then also read that for beginners it's best to just stick with under-bust ones, which wouldn't offer support where I need it anyway.

Thank you all for the replies. :) We may just have to make more time for fidding with the laces so it's not too bad (and taking breaks in between to cool down if it's still this hot!). I don't like it, but realistically there's little I can do at this stage, and the fiance won't care a jot :D

Ah right. I didn't realise it was done to the lacing. In which case yes take your time.

Youtube has some fab videos on how to lace up a dress, practice and practice.

A wet towel placed in the fridge will help if u put it round ur neck and if u cool ur wrists in icecold water that should help too.

But have your 'helpers' scrimp on getting you ready. Yes like you say your OH won't care, but its clear that you do and that to me is moree important. If your going in to the day 'not liking it' then I would hope everyone is doing there best to make you feel better.
