I contacted debt agency B who took over from Debt agency A over an old credit card debt.
Debt agency B have agreed to remove a default off my record that agency A placed on in 2010.
The email I have copied and pasted below:
Further to the below email and our recent conversation, we are happy to confirm that on receipt of your final settlement payment we will notify our Client who will update your credit file within 6-8 weeks.
Your Credit File will be updated as partially satisfied therefore removing the default on the account where you will also no longer be pursued for the remaining balance.
Is this legit? Will the default notice be removed?
Or is it a case of they are just saying it, and it is agency A that needs to remove this?

The default wont be removed, it'll just be settled.
They cant be removed from your file completely0 -
If it is in the new companies name now then there is no reason why it can't be removed as part of a settlement, but I would want to double check that statement with them to clarify.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB
