'Funny' smell from cooking pork

Hi there,
I had a pork shoulder joint in the fridge with a use by date of today, so stuck it in the slow cooker earlier. It smelled and looked normal when I put it in.
After about an hour I could smell it cooking, but it didn't smell the same as it usually does. It was a bit more bitter/sour. (My bf says it smells of dog food! )
I know it's difficult to advise without personally smelling it, but has anyone else experienced this?
I have OCD, with most of my issues concerning food, so I just want to put it in the bin, but it seems like such a waste.:(

Not keen on pork because I always find the smell off putting. Smells like pigs to me. Not being funny, btw.0

Pork is my fave, and I usually love coming home to the smell of it cooking in the slow cooker.:(0

Did you remember to remove the absorbent pad from it? I've forgotten in the past and that smells pretty grim when cooked!Shrinking my mortgage!

If it was OK when it went in it'll be OK once it's cooked!
