Affordable spf 30 for face?

Options
After an anxious 6 mos, I have just got the all clear from the beginnings of skin cancer, though dr. recommended I now wear a minimum spf 30 everyday. I can do sunscreen on my body but really don't like the feeling of it on my face, can anyone recommend a light, affordable facial spf?

Not specifially facial but Morrsions own brand have a light dry oil spray at £2.99, spf30 five star uva/b which I am using under foundation atm with no problems so its light on the skin, well done on the all clear:beer: .

What sort of budget would you be looking at?

If you wanted more of a make-up come sunscreen Clinique do a BB cream with SPF30 but at £25-ish I guess it's not that cheap :(
  • Thanks Hughjass and j.e.j.

I will give the Morrison's stuff a try. I have not got on with BB creams in the past, don't like foundation or anything else, wonder if Clinique would give me a sample? I think I may have to go shopping and try a few things. Was hoping not to have to spend over £20, but then really I shouldn't be miserly if its my health!

Olay do a facial moisteriser with SPF 30 - its fairly new. I just bought a bottle for a fiver in asda. Ive used it before and really liked it, especially as Im very faired skinned.

I have been using the Olay one for quite some time and it's been fine. It's not a very large container though. I believe the Clarins one is the best but (fortunately) my local stockists were out of supplies on the day I determined to buy it!

I bought an SPF 50 from Aldi which works very well. It's a Lacura brand and it's anti-ageing.

    Avon is pretty good too.
  • Can you use sunscreens that are meant for the body on your face? The reason being, I just bought this spf50 spray from Boots, at half price:
    http://www.boots.com/en/Soltan-Moisturising-Suncare-Spray-With-Insect-Repellent-SPF50-200ml_1207072/

It says it's non-pore blocking and easily absorbed - would that mean it's likely to be okay for use on the face as well as the body?

In some cases, are sunscreens that are marketed for use on the face just a way of selling less product for more money?

I have found that Clinique counters in Boots don't give out samples, but there are a few on EBay. I'm pretty sure they do facial sunscreen with SPF30 but I haven't tried it myself, so can't say what it's like. Like you I don't like the feel on sunscreen on my face, it makes my skin look and feel a bit greasy!
  • This looks promising...

will see if I can find the Aldi one too, though sometimes can be a bit hit and miss with seasonal things.

Bodyshop and Lush seem to do a version - though that's moving into quite a different price range. If I can get away with spending under a tenner I'll be happy since I now have to wear it all the time.

I was told by a beautician that the SPF containing skin creams shouldn't be relied on as sun protection, she said it's going to be very weak uva/uvb protection as it's diluted with product... I don't know the science of it but it sounds about right?

I've been on the lookout for a good sunscreen too, I've got loads of hyper-pigmentation on my face I'm worried I'll get more:(

So far I've tried amber solaire, aveeno and coppertone etc. The least greasy one I've come acrossed so far has to be 'HAWAIIAN TROPIC Oil-free Faces Sheer Sunscreen SPF30', it feels like a light moisturiser!:T it's an american brand, costs about £10 on amazon:)
I'm going to buy a new one once I've used up my poundshop sunscreens, although cheap I wouldn't recommend them for you though as they can be very old stock...

Be wary of use by dates, I heard the protection level decreases year by year so say a 1 year out of date bottle of spf 30 will effectively be spf 15, again I'm no expert so can't verify this :)
