Comic Relief items at Sainsburys

Just popped into my local Sainsburys... at the end of the aisles they had lots of Comic Relief merchandise... not priced or scanned... you just put a donation in the bucket at the end. I got lots of mugs, soft squeaky toys, car air fresheners and bubbles for the children. I presume this would be nationwide.

There was tonnes of RND stuff in my local but it was not priced up, so maybe I will take a look as my little one really wants a pair of the deeley boppers!!

In my store is was all put out the back, free for staff

Silly question, but does it not defeat the object if they are giving it away free for staff?

The whole point is to make money for Comic Relief, surely?

Yes, same in our sainsbury. Still lots of things, lovely to see that people aren't abusing it and are still donating generously

My DD was given a cuddly today as it didn't scan. The SA was chuffed that she then gave a donation unprompted, and I was chuffed that the SA had given her the longed- for toy

Really people???? money saving on goods for such a fantastic cause...bad times!!!

If you're shopping in Sainsbury, surely you can spare the full price for a mug to help someone who is forced to drink water they know will make them ill!

Or an alternative view is that Comic Relief does still get a smaller donation for some 'out of date' branded goods that Sainsburys have left over, which is better than nothing.

I have to agree that trying to get a bargain or a freebie from a charity is pretty shocking! Surely the point of buying the red nose is to demonstrate that you have donated the amount specified to comic relief? What's the point in owning it knowing you got it for free or only paid pennies for it?

I've noticed that the pack of stickers say £1 on them but say 50p of proceeds go to comic relief so it is much better if you can donate full amount to comic relief- that way you know 100% of what you are paying goes direct to the cause
