Paul Hollywood's Bread tv programme

Options
Anyone else watch the first episode this evening?

I did and thought it was pretty good. I know a few people have said recently that TV chefs are a bit out of touch with reality but bread is so cheap to make that you can afford to be a bit more adventurous and honestly I was almost drooling watching the telly, all that lovely rye bread...

Next week is apparently all about flatbreads so I'll definitely be watching that.

  • I watched and liked. Also enjoyed the language references, ground to a halt, barmy, upper crust. Set to record rest so don't miss anything.

He is now saying to use cold water, and to kneed on an oiled board.

Anyone that usually eats some of the rubbish that comes out of supermarkets must now be tempted to make their own bread. All that was missing was the smell coming out of the Tv.

I agree, you would definitely think so, but I fear that the old monster "sloth" will get in the way.
The truth is that many people do not "have enough time" for anything these days, except for sitting in front of the box all night/playing the xbox/texting/going to the pub.
I have tried to tell my relations and friends how easy, cheap and fullfilling it is to make bread, but not one of them has bothered. On my wife's side however, a lot of her workmates bake and cook on a regular basis - they are all scientists, they seem to make the most of their free time.
The programme last night was really informative, particularly starting off with the basic loaf.
  • I watched it and loved it :D tonight's plan is to try bread with oil - I've always used butter in mine, rubbed in, and then kneaded/rolled in flour, but I'll try the oil and see what the results are like...... and enjoy some fresh bread too!

  • OOOOh I shall have to watch the repeat of this. :D I was lucky enough to get both his and a couple of Mary Berry books for crimbo. I have to admit there is something a bit sexy about Hollywood - he's got naughty eyes!
Everyone has a dark side... apparently mine is called Harold?!?
